another rusted, busted electric horn...

this one lasted fron September to December. The one before, one season and befor that, two seasons (but I had to smack it a few times...)

I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE!

Seems all brands and models have the same exact horn mechanism with different outsides.
Plastic or stainless doesn't matter...All made in the same chinese factory that makes trailer lights.

The horn itself rusts to shi...

Got a can of horn at wally world... I know.... they rust too...

Kevin have you had experience with the Schmitt unit?

Not practical on a V 20 but many of the larger boats use air horns with compressors etc.

The only horn that I have that works is a silly electronic type on the 23 Wellcraft.

No experience just saw that they had a 5 yr warranty....

Warranty doesn't cover electrical components tho... I THINK that the elec parts should be protected in them tho.

Pretty sure I have the same one on my 22WA. It works but sounds like an import car.

Hahaha import car.....so true!!

Most important is it works if you get boarded by law enforcement.

I carry a air can on the Bertram because both horns have rusted to crap and a whistle on the RIB and V 20.

I know a good friends wife got a ticket for not having a whistle on a 13' Whaler inside the harbor here. Within sight of land on every side but still got fined.

I once got a ticket from the CG on lake eerie for a horn....
It worked fine 5 min before they boarded me... The jokers ripped out the wire grabbing my boat... (Open aluminum)
I pointed it out and they still ticketed me.

Sometimes I think law enforcement forget that the laws are put in place to keep people safe not to generate funds for the gov't.

I try to keep a few extra whistle around. I hang one on the helm of every boat just in case we get boarded.

#1 job of law enforment is revinue collections, that came to light back when New York Police were going to strike over Obama no coming to any LEO fumerals but going to BLM funerals. Some one published the numbers and everyone quietly went back to work. Suposably, nation wide, law enforcement spends more working hours bringing in revenue(remember trafic, permiting, parking and code enformement) than any other single function.

as far as horns go, I buy 4 or 5 of those whistles every year, hook one to each life jacket, hook one to my keys, put one on my tackle bag, two or three in my boat bag. I doubt they will help signaling anotehr boat, but you never know. And bisides, Ive saved some frinds from tickets by having a spare in my tackle bag when we got checked. The only horns Ive seen that last are the can horns and PIAA air horns

does anybody ever use those things anyway? my old bayliner, years ago, had a sticker on the dash with all the horn signals. i tried signaling a few times, ya know cause i had a horn and a sticker, and people would shoot me the bird and yell obscenities at me. bout as useless as a flare gun. all you can do is set there and drink beer and blow the horn at and shoot flares at all the boats that go by and wont stop to help

Got an old set of horns out of a f150 at the junk yard a while back, still haven't installed them in the cuddy, I'm a Chevy guy and it just doesn't feel right.
