Sweet Phat, let us know when the spanish start running down there.

For the last few years that's been my official notice that Spring has arrived.

What kind of bass boat? The whaler?

Took my new to me SUNDANCE out yesterday for it's first little trip to the lake. Now I gotta find a prop to stop the porpoising.

got about another month before spanish arrive. water temp is still 62-63, needs to be 68-70.

the boat i'm messing with is a 15.5 cajun stick steer w/ 40 hp mariner. 98 model. belonged to my dad, after he passed away 5 years ago, i went out in it 3 times. decided to sell it & the whaler and maybe getting a larger skiff like ferms to scallop out of.

glad ya'll liked it.

Let me know what you end up running Ferm, still have a little more setting up to do on mine, but thinking I might need a 4 blade.

The wide beam skiffs porpoise BAD! I'm looking at either a powertech scd4 16 pitch, spitfire 4 blade aluminum, or a michigan wheel 4 blade aluminum xhs. With the way it porpoises, I'll probably have to put a fin on the engine to help hold the bow down.

That is crappy. Carolina Skiff and the service department kept the company I worked for in the late 80's ALIVE. They were not too bad to porpoise as I recall. (Original design) My dad's newer designed 14J 20hp Merc will definitely porpoise if there is noone in the front seat. I can move the fuel tank foreward enough and put the cooler up there and it almost removes the ill effect of having a big *** guy sitting at the transom... No mas driving with the tiller anymore. Give me a steering wheel and a throttle I can set and cruise. That tiller of my dad's will wear you out on a long cruise.
To get a clear picture of what your fighting, Are You talking neutral trim or fully tucked and porposing?

Fully tucked, and porpoising. And engine height isn't the problem as I can change that at the flick of a switch. The 3blade yamaha semi cleaver aluminum that came on it was undriveable in my opinion. The 4 blade solas made theboat controllable, but still bounces. I know on CS board, the 198 is a known porpoiser, but the narrow beam isn't. The modified V's seem to be the worst. I've had several flatbottom boats now thatneeded a fin to stop them from porpoising. I'm going to try and prop this one to fix it, if not it will get a fin to.

19 ft "v"series for mine, 65 inch narrow beam. Fully trimmed down. Controllable below 4000 rpms. Fuel tank moved forward under custom glass over 3/4 ply console. Sorry to hijack Phat.
