The ocean is still VERY rough here but fishable in a big boat. 4 of us old guys went out at 5 am on a 57 viking and came in at 7pm and over all had a pretty good day collectively ... 11 kings to 23 pounds , 4 Wahoo to 38 pounds and 5 Mahi to 17 pounds and I lost a really big (for north carolina) Mahi which was an easy 40 pounds ...Sh## . We had good luck trolling 2 oz chrome jap pink and white feather jigs with white 6 inch sea rind trailers , Manns Stretch 30's in baby dolphin color and Huntington Drone spoons in yellow flash on the downriggers..we were out around 17 miles in around 71 degree water 66 feet deep so they are coming in fast and in a couple of weeks they will be in small boat range right off the beach..we also stopped at the sea buoy 8 miles out as there were 3 nice cobia probably 30 pounds plus swimming around but no takers..yellow bucktails etc but they were not interested although one swam around the boat several times ..I thought about jumping on him with my new fillet knife but I decided on a flounder sandwich and a double jack daniels instead...Frank

OOOO baby wahoo 17 miles out? Hope they stay there a while! Good report Frank!
You always tear em up. We are headed to Hatteras for memorial day weekend. I don't know how we'll do since my buddy with the bad back will be with us and I don't think he'll be able to take too much of a pounding.

Blue runner: I am slowly getting out of the off shore fishing . I've got a couple of sport fishie captain friends that call me when a mate is sick or they just want to do some actual stand up fishing themselves or BS clients and I drive the boat but I really dont enjoy it that much and I will only do it if they cant get anyone else and they have a charter. I am purposely letting my USCG license and endorsements expire so it will be easier to say no. Inshore fishing is another matter as I love puppy drum and trout fishing. I went out last night and caught 5 trout to 4 pounds and lost a real nice one that was at least 5 pounds. In July the Mahi will be 6 to 8 miles out the inlet and we can hit them in small boats on nice days ...Frank
