Day 1

Headed out to do some fishing. *The weather was kinda bad but manageable despite the ferocious 25 mph west wind that blew on us all day. *Inshore was flat with relatively NO chop becuase the wind had to blow over the land....but offshore a few miles you could see the lumpy horizon with the solid 3 - 4 rolling out there. *So we stayed in and hit a few spots. *

Day one was rather uneventful. *Only managed one undersized weakfish on bait, a micro flounder on a jig and a 1 lb whiting on bait.

Day 2

Woke to 36 degrees in the morning. *The forecast was calling for it to warm nicely and the breeze would not pick up until after lunch. *Decided to get bait at an AR 3 miles off. *While there fishing for pinfish we got into some bluefish action. *Got about 8 of those up to 2 lbs. *Put 2 smaller one in the livewell with the pins. *Then Cory got a nice hit on what we thought was a shark for the longest time, but turned out to be a nice 15 lb drum! *Revived and released.

Moving on out to a spot of live bottom 15 miles out the water temp at 59 degrees did not look good for king fishing but we tried anyways. * We drifted 2 live baits, one using a single bluefish and the other loaded with a double pinfish presentation. *Not a sniff. *But as we drifted we also bottom fished with cut bait, minnows and shrimp. *Did not get any keep BSB's but caught over 1 million. * ;D *Next thing you know Cory's rod goes down again. *This time we think it is a big shark. *Nope, just a 25 lb drum!

After things slowed down and the sharks got TOO active we decide to move on in to a spot of rocky shell bottom right off the beach. *

Go there and in one drift I caught 3 weakies on bait from 13 - 14 inches. *So we anchor in the spot where we caught and it was on a like a chicken bone from then on! *I broke out the light tackle and a little gold jig and wore em out! *My fishing buddies ended up asking if I had any more of those lures and I loaned them each one, which they used to put a few in the box as well *;) * All in all we caught I think around 13 or so keepers with as many or more that had to go back. *SC limit is 12" on weakies BTW. *The keepers went from 13 - 16 inches, so nothing real big but fun fun fun on light tackle.

While we were catching the weakies, a sudden change in wind direction came upon us. *This was about the exact time the weather man had predicted a shift and it kicked up some tight 2 - 3's right in our bow. *So we had to plow home about 8 miles at 12 - 13 mph. *The V did an outstanding job with very little banging. Trimmed up to keep the bow high and just taking it slow and steady right into the slop! I love my boat man!

So on Saturday night we had a nice fried bluefish and weakie dinner! * A great end to a fun trip.

How'd I do on the report RB? *This is what you asked for right? *;D

SC red drum limit is a slot at 15" - 23" so these bruisers had to go back due to being oversized.

Ultra light jigging = doesn't get any better than that! ;D

Plus they are not the best eating fish, not when you have a cooler full of trout anyways.

I forgot to say that when I pulled the anchor in the trout hole it was hung pretty good. I finally got it loose but it was still heavy....yep - I pulled up a very nice anchor (exactly like the one I already have) that someone donated to the rocks ;D

Funny how the names change in different parts of hte country. I know, spotted weakfish and red drum are offical , but down in the gulf I'd say you had a couple nice reds and an icechest full of specs!

Thanks Slinger and Bass.

Flounder, so do you call weakfish and spotted sea trout the same thing? Around here weafish on the table are about as highly regarded as bluefish - which I happen to like very much! ;) But speckled trout on the other hand is a much sought after dinner fish.

P.S.

What's the world come to? ::) I'm asking a flounder a question about trout! ;D

Nice job Dawg, I love the light tackle days. My friends that go out always want to spend the days looking for the big boys, with an occassional fish. I'd rather fill the cooler and have fun with the small to medium boys and less flying around.
You did good ;)
