Now and then, I ponder " moving up " to a more blue water type boat....older Seacraft Scepter being one of my favorites, the 25 too.

Then a day like yesterday, and I believe I have close to the perfect boat for what I do...the V21 with 200 pushing

Chilly weather - curtains up, no issue, fresh air from the back.
More breeze - open the center window, perfect.
Spray what spray ? We're not getting wet with full curtains up.
Room to fish as friend said yesterday.........a lot of boat for 21'
Agility easy to trailer, launch, run and seaworthy for the conditions I favor.

And of course.......got a call from a few miles away of hot bite. Calm seas so no problem cruising at 40 mph to get there fast.

gotta agree with ya, b. i went from a center console to the cuddy because my daughter was born, we needed a cuddy for all the stuff that taking a baby out brings with it. i thought when she gets to be 4 or 5, i'll go back. bout then her brother was born. so delayed it another 5 years. by then i was so used to it and comfortable in it. that was 24 years ago

the curtains make it a truly year round boat for us.

Good summary, but you forgot something. Price tag. Have you seen what a comparable boat in the 21' range costs these days? No thank you....

Isn't that the truth.
Keep in mind, some of these V20's and V21's are becoming collectable......$ 20k - $50k or more depending on condition. Someone even suggested a mint V21 could go for $ 100,000.
Wonder who that was ?

I last owned a v20 in 1976 and I just recently brought a 1986 model, (very clean, no issues ) and put on a 2015 115 yamaha. I now have 10 hours on the boat and really like it. In between I owned 2 31 bertrams and 1 35 bertram. I noticed that when I was painting the bottom that the hull underneath resembles the 31 bert. The V20 does not have the outside chine.
My son now ownes the last 31 bert. powered with twin 315hp yanmars. Great boat but I'm getting older and want to relax.
One thing I want to mention , that when they ask me why I usually fish alone, I tell them that most of friends are dead or they won't move off the couch.

Uhhh . . . I wouldn't hold my breath for any boat appreciating in value except for maybe a conch27. If the boat meets your needs and you can do what you want with it (easily) then that's all that matters. V20's are inexpensive, low maintenance, capable boats . . . about as good as it gets for an all purpose 20ft craft (maybe a bigger cabin would have been nice :), but overall they are great boats.

I would have never sold my v20 except I got married, sold the boat, moved cross country, got divorced, remarried and got a deal on some seacrafts in between. Purchase price of my 3 boats $1800, $200, and Free.

exactly! and the V20 is a great boat for fishing alone!

On a Bertram you gotta go up & down the flybridge. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!

Big -it's a little exaggeration I've perpetuated that goes back to discussion about sell price.
So, sure, $ 100,000 for a mint 96 V21.....last year offered, and typically $50,000 for very solid V20's !!! :)

Not that I could get it, but I wouldn't sell my 94 v21 for 10 grand. No way I could replace it. Still in love with her after 10 years. Now if someone offers 50 g's, I'll send her @ss on down the road!!

:sun:I always sed the V20 is the everything boat...fully rigged out for striper fishing; rod holders, bait tank, etc, etc....in less than an hour all that removed and converted into a family/ski boat complete w/tow pylon and extra chairs...did that many times while the kids were growing up w/a smile on my face each time!!

Picked up this ol' girl a couple weeks ago for FREE minus the engine.

If she had been a Seacraft or Bertram she'd have been $1500-$3500.

Spare you have a 2.4 or 2.5?

You should do an old school twin merc V20, it would be sweet!

You're the first guy I thought of before he said his friend wanted it.
