"85 V20 Cuddy w/ 300 hp Evinrude V8 Asking $2500

Saw this on the side of US 17 about a half a mile south of Chatham Parkway.

Called the guy and spoke to him. Says he hasn't run it in about 1.5 years, says he thinks the carbs need to be rebuilt, thought some trash from the fuel tank got sucked into them. Said it has good compression although he couldn't remember the numbers because it was a while back. Sitting on a galvanized tandem axle trailer missing the two front wheels. Boat to me looks like a moderate project, didn't climb up in it to check the decks or anything. Has the seat/storage box on the port side. Engine said either "Limited Edition", or "Special Edition" on the cowling. Has hydraulic steering.

Guys name is Nathan

I forgot to ask him the most important question, "How fast?". Maybe Bgreene will call him.

How fast? Now is that how fast it goes, or how fast that V8 sucks the 60 gallon tank DRY! Drop the hammer and those things can suck down almost 35 gallons an hour.

It did have two fuel fills, don't know what that entails tank wise. Those engines are huge, taller than me.

And hefty. With power steering they weighed in in the upper 500 range IIRC. You wouldn't think it, but those 2 extra cylinders took ALOT more aluminum to keep the block rigid(and that HUGE exhaust chest).

I know the fastest outboard on the planet is a Johnrude V-8. I think 60 would be doable in a V. LOL! Maybe even crack 65. :sly: Send it out to Dave Bush or Monty and then you got a 75 mph sled. Just north of 450 hp and balls of torque. Just need holdings in a fuel company as Ferm mentioned.

There's a guy on THT with three Monty motors on the back of his scarab. 430hp a piece.

Yup, quick Ferm what is the fuel burn in minutes? I can't imagine fuel flowing through 3/8" fuel hose fast enough. The fuel hose would need to be ethanol AND vacuum rated.

I doubt that engine only drinks 35/per at wot. I'd guess st least 45-50 per

well 30 gph would be 1/2 gal per minute and 45 gph would be 3/4 gallon per minute....

at $4/gal you are looking at $2 - $3 per minute

Well the general rule is 1 GPH for roughly every 10HP for a 4 stroke/DFI, and about 1 GPH for every 9HP for a carbed 2 stroke at WOT. Some large engines are more like 1 GPH to 8HP, and when you turn them up the ratio goes down even furthur. If you figure smile per gallons it may be worth it to some, but not me. It hurt bad enough when I dropped the hammer on my 225 on my HYDRA-SPORTS. It drank back 28 GPH at WOT, but she was ported and opened a touch.

Yeh how fast ?

I'm guessing could hit 60 + dropped off a shear cliff of the grand canyon.

I have had both a 250 v8 Johnson and a 235 evinrude ( Two of OMC worst for MPG). Even though the V8 ran dual vro's/ fuel pumps, the 235 drank more fuel a WOT than the V8 did. Believe me that's saying something! But the sound that V8 makes at WOT is awesome

They didn't call it the two thristy five for nothin. I imagine a 300 would probably keep up with it though. The 250 got the small carbs, and smaller porting than the 300 got. But the sound alone is worth it.

Geez - running one of those is like hiring a lawyer who likes to hear himself talk. I'm liking my old 4 cyl Merc 170 I/O better with every post in this thread.

Yep, FlyingNorseman. I wonder if he would like to know that this engine is available for sale.
