Hi I'm from Ct. and I just got a 84 V20 and the previous owner turned me on to this site.
I had one back in the 70's and loved it, it had twin 70's on it and went real
good. As it turns out it needs a lot more work then I was told and I don't know if I'm up for it. I Know it needs a transom and just found out the front deck is soft and leeks under the hatch. I was wondering how to go about getting to the transom from the inside.

I saw some of the posts on what it takes to do it right but was wondering if this needs to much. I could post more pics. Thanks

welcome, looks like you got a few projects ahead of you. do a site search and you should get a lot of info on the transom repair. i think i will have to do the same to mine one day. a few members have done the arjay/seacast pour method. it looks the least painful to me.
as far as the cabin overhead, probably need to pull the cap, turn it over and address it that way. but, i would be tempted to clean it up and try to laminate a piece of 2 inch square aluminum tubing to the existing beam(like the po did with the wood) but use the west g flex epoxy. they make it in a caulk tube that mixes the resin & hardner as it comes out and flows like silicone. you can run a bead upside down with no sag. i'm a "on site fabricator" kinda guy, might not win any beauty contest, but if it held, beats pulling the cap.

I thought they all leaked around the hatch?

How spongey is the top of the cuddy? I think you could fix it like Phat said if it's not too bad. I had to recore mine from the bottom with the cap attached, major pain, not recommended. LOL

Hi and welcome aboard. Like Phatdaddy said, if it were me I'd go the Seacast or Arjay pourable transom repair. Unless you're used to working with wood (I'm not) it seems to be the best and easiest way to fix the transom. In a few words, you take off the top covering between the two fiberglass skins (Inner and outer) remove all the wood (good and rotten) and pour a liquid into the void that will harden into a solid permanent repair. There are several posts on this site from people that have used this style of repair to great success. Just do a search. Thanks all for the info,I'll look into it. The deck is soft around where the crack is and the support is gone for about a foot. I put a 2"X2"X6'
piece of mahogany where the ply wood was and jacked it up to crown the deck back to help water runoff butt it still leeks. I'll take the hatch off to see if the crack goes thru. Thanks again. I'll post more pics,This was Greywolfs boat.
