Took the V20 out with my son-in-law & granddaughter today for opening day of shrimp season here in Mississippi. We drag a 15 foot otter trawl & just pull it up by hand. Nice day! Things went great & we got about 75 pounds of nice shrimp & were back at the house by noon!

If I could catch 75 lbs of shrimp I'd sell my rods!

I'd say it counts.....with the price of shrimp lately you are sitting on a gold mine.
I read there is some bacteria killing all the Indonesian/asian shrimp farm stock....Good for wild caught US shrimpers but bad for my wallet.

Do they open commercial season before recreational? That disease has kept prices up for about a year now, the shrimpers that have hung on through Katrina & then the oil spill deserve a good year.

Our State recreational/commercial "food" shrimp season does coincide with each other.
Any time after May 15 the commissioner "may" open the season, this year it was June 10.
I was wondering if the black gill was in the gulf, we've had it for several years.

I guess "black gill" isn't here because that's the first I've heard of it. But if it's in the Atlantic, it's probably just a matter of time.
Our Shrimp season works about the same, they test shrimp until they get a 68 count average & then open it shortly, usually right around the first week of June.
