don't know if you guys have ever been but we went to robbie's marina so the kids could feed the tarpon, and discovered Florida's real hidden gem. the restaurant next door, the hungry tarpon. I ordered the Islamorada sandwich, fried. a huge slab of fresh fried grouper on a Kaiser roll. a bed of sautéed onions, lettuce tomato and a dill mayo sauce.
guys, this was the best phukking sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. so fresh. so beautiful. got it with an order of conch fritters and a heap o' slaw. do yourselves a favor.... when you get to the keys stop in to the hungry tarpon and get yourself this sandwich.
unphuckingbelieveable!!

I eat one of those every Friday at "The Islander" on Wilmington Island, Georgia. I get mine wit sum cheeze.
If yer in the Keys, "Craig's Restuarant" in Tavernier has a good fish sandwich. Damn badass conch fritters too.
For y'all local to Savannah, "Coco's" on Lazaretto Creek has a good one named The Moby Dick. Can get it as a sandwich or a wrap.

oops, I forgot the cheese. this one had cheese as well. slice of American right on top. by the way, let me just express my envy toward those of you who get to live in this fishermans paradise. saw an 8 foot hammerhead take a bonito off a line. manta ray doing backflips. a school of 20 to 30 pound dolphin swim by. a school of banded rudderfish so thick that we couldn't get baits past them. and those bad boys can fight. under any bridge or dock in the keys, 60 to 100 pound tarpon just lazing along. just fish everywhere.

The house we rent every year is 2 blocks from Craig's Bradford. They do have a good fish sammich. Doc's Place in Key Largo gets my vote for all around best fish and eggs in the keys. Tower Pizza is calling my name.. Jezus I can't hardly wait.. I want to eat my way from island to island. Fishing along the way.. and diving. You are killing me CTT

Those sammitches sound GREAT... I haven't had a really good fish sammitch in a long time. Just really hard to find one up north.
Oh, and please do NOT mention Tilapia in the same sentence with real fish. That disgusting thing is farm raised, with real questions being asked about it's actual food value. It's being compared (unfavorably) to a McDonalds Big Mac (or just about any other fast food burger loaded with things you don't really want to know about). They are so loaded with growth hormones, antibiotics, chemicals, etc. that they make the Tuna/Mercury scare look like a child's bedtime story.

I don't want to know if the stuff I am eating is all bad.. I am trying to keep at least one vice alive and well.. :sun::beer: Atmosphere does make a fish sammich taste a little better.. Wish I were there with you CTT
I was up MJ's way a few years back, ate at a place called the Willow Tree, best fish & chips I ever had.. Them Northern fish are pretty tasty.

If most peopel knew how tilapia was raised, they wouldn't eat it. The bulk of the tilapia out there that is sold is from fish farms and waste treatment areas as tilapia is a garbage eater. So they use tilapia to eat the waste from other fish as they literally eat SH!T! It's one of those fish that restaurants like because it has no real natural flavor, but accepts whatever flavoring you put on it so each chef can give his dish it's own unique to them flavor. Wild tilapia aren't to bad as they are nothing more than nile perch. But these hybrids they now have are just about worthless.
My wife refused to eat anything but tilapia when I first met her. Her comment was "it is the only clean fish without a muddy taste". I got her to try grouper one time, and now she refuses to eat tilapia. Plus after watching dirty jobs where she saw tilapia in a fish farm, that ended it for good(somethign about seeing dinner come out of a waste pond ruined her appetite).

Ferman, agree with you 100%, likewise for how chickens and hogs are raised..
Just south of here they had an experiment back in the 70's where they would gather up and pellitize chicken poop which was then fed to the cows. It wasn't long before people got word and that was the end of that.
Gross the saying, "You are what you eat."
