Looks good. I caught a bunch of those Whitting (we call them sand mullet or king fish up here in Va.) the other day. Those things are great to eat. Where are fishing out of? Somewhere south judging by the pompano?

Nice catch!

We have both ground mullet and whiting. A ground mullet (southern kingfish) is completely different and caught differently but they are very closely related. Whiting run the beach and are caught in the surf around here where as ground mullet prefer muddy bottoms like around oil rigs in the bay.

The main difference is that whiting are really silvery with a small black mark on the tail. Ground mullet are more brownish and can even produce spots when stressed (caught).

Either way they are both in the drum family and look very much like baby redfish....they are both excellent eating and are IMO the finest flakiest meat around. If they got as big as reds I swear that all Id fish for. ;)
