While visiting Mr Krink...uh Lee...we decided to take a V20 ride...little did I know I would wind up in a place I read about in books and saw on history TV shows...

Anyway, Capt Krin...Lee guides me down to the Byrum Boating Facility (aptly named after the guy who donated it to the Byrum Compound)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/reelapeelin/DSCN1881_zps7c1f31b4.jpg (http://s3.photobucket.com/user/reelapeelin/media/DSCN1881_zps7c1f31b4.jpg.html)

Clearly he's got this thing worked out...walk out, flip a switch, splash the V

As we pull away from the Byrum Estate (seen in background), Lee studies the waterway ahead with the intensity of a dog after a meaty bone...

The big 350 roars to life and off we go...

The big 350 scoots us quickly across open water and up the ditch...

Instant isolation...from civilization to backwater isolation of this stretch of the ICW...

Then Dismal Swamp...Martha's Ditch...hand dug by slaves under the direction of Geo Washington...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/reelapeelin/DSCN1899_zps73d22e50.jpg (http://s3.photobucket.com/user/reelapeelin/media/DSCN1899_zps73d22e50.jpg.html)

And so full of swarming Yellow Flies, we didn't stick around for the history lesson...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/reelapeelin/DSCN1900_zps1d27ef93.jpg (http://s3.photobucket.com/user/reelapeelin/media/DSCN1900_zps1d27ef93.jpg.html)

We blasted on by big boy and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon...If you've never been on the water ways in the Elizabeth City area, try it some time..lots more to do than just Dismal Swamp...oh and be sure to look out for the blue topped V20 I/O...Capt's too much fun to be around!!...:fam:

Great Pics! I need ta get over there myself. I've always wanted to put the V in here at Cannons Ferry boat landing and run all the way to Oregon Inlet. I think it would be a nice ride. Just not sure where I could get gas along the way.

OK, there is going to be a investigation then, And Senor Krinkle is the main suspect.

Yea, it's OK. So you got a sweet Lady, a direct input into a sweet waterway, a nice good running V, great crabs, good fishing, and a reported stash from some northern fellow in the freezer and a thrill for life.
So what!
You got it made my friend.
Not bad for an Old Geezer I say.

A Dismal Swamp cruise is on my "to do" list as well.

There was an article in the Wildlife in NC magazine a few years ago where they made it a two day trip spending the night in Va on the north end of the canal...I will have to see if I can find it.

Whats the best time of year to do it?

I would think late September or early October? As long as nothing tropical comes through.
