I was offered an 88' Yamaha 150 for $800. It is on the lower end of the power range I had planned but it is supposedly in great shape.
Does anyone have any insight to this engine? Reliability, power? I had a 130 on my 18' that pushed it to around 40mph but the 20' is a whole different beast.

A good runnin' 150 should top end at 40 w/no problem...my old 150 Rude did and the Honda 150 did about 42...

beware of the corroded shift shaft issue, although somebody posted an aftermarket fix where pulling the powerhead is not neccessary.

yes i had to get one done, they can be a bear to do, some get lucky, mine was easy. but that was also 10 years ago.
The replacement will be SS and they started to use SS in 94 with the Salt water series

I like to cruise around 28-30 mph...which generally shows 43-4400 on the tach...fuel burn in that range is not too outrageous...:news:
