Should I use mahoghony or teak for my outrigger bases, compass base, and other trims. Either or will epoxy coated and then sprayed with a uv stable clear coat. Give me your opinions!!

Does it have to match any other wood on boat? If not then I would say mahogany.

I agree mahogany I believe teak should not be painted only treated with proper cleaners and oil.

I thought teak was water and rot resistant. Mahogany is a hard wood but has to be treated to keep out side? Let me know as I need to replace some teak on my boast and I believe mahogany is cheaper?

I'm gonna treat the mahoghony like i would my teak trim. It's gonna be epoxy coated with 2 coats then cleared with uv rated clear coat. Bad thing about the teak I have is that its loaded with oil. Mahoghony is not, it will except the epoxy better than teak. I have plenty of both. I think I'm gonna go with mahoghony, I have plenty of teak for sale if anybody wants it? Thanks for the help fellas!!!

Kracker... sorry I have not responded sooner.
Death in family, Doc apps. with wife starting radiation on Mon. whew!! too much at times.
But yes I think I can use some of your teak. I have a full length swim platform that I need to add to front edge to fit curve of transom.
Also would like to build some new floor hatch covers if I cannot find any, by the way did you guys say there was a boat yard up your way with a late 70's v20 with parts?

if you need any Teak, contact my sisters company http://www.mullismillwork.com/ just outside of Raleigh, they may have some small pieces if they've had a run. Most of the time they have mahogany and other hard woods. You may have to wait for them to run a contract as they don't keep a lot of scrap around
