what do you guys think of the dodge ram? more specifically the 4.7 or the 5.7. they seem a bit cheaper than the chevy and the ford and i've come accross a few nice ones. i need to buy something in the next two weeks.

charlie, i've been driving dodges since 72 ( van w slant 6). engine & drivetrain usually not a problem , bad trannys 94-2000, but the gas mileage & resale sucks. interiors & dash are plastic and don't hold up well. i have heard the 06 & up are pretty good, but no first hand knowledge.

what happened to the tahoe quest, chevy with a 5.3 is hard to beat.

The 4.7L can be a good engine, but requires FREQUENT oil changes or else it WILL let go on you. The 5.7L has been a decent engine, but I would avoid the early ones with the MDS system that drops back to a 4 cylinder. DODGE had some issues with it early on. The 45RFE and 545RFE trannies are pretty good trannies unlike the dodges of yesteryear. The 9 1/4 rear end used in the trucks can be troublesome as I used to rebuild a few of them when I worked for DODGE. And then there is the interiors that are all plastic and are KNOWN for squeaks and rattles. The new ones with the 4.7L/5.7L aren't horrible trucks, but there is a reason why they are cheaper than GM and FORD.

i have only owned my 2012 1500 dodge ram for 9 months now and i love the 4.7 , this is my second one, i had the previous one for several years with no problems at all. (oil changes every 2500 miles) as with any truck i have ever owned. a while back Idid post up a suspension problem , or should i say a lack of suspension. Dodge removed the leaf springs for a better ride but i quickly found an inexpensive fix for that, it's fine now !!

phat, i cant find a dam one without that dam leather interior. there are a few out there with the cloth seats but they're really few and far between. i happened upon a real nice quad cab ram and the dam thing's green. still looking but need something bad and soon. the wife found me a nice mitsubishi galant and i told her if i decide to lop off one of my balls i'll consider it.
