I meant to post this suggestion when MJ (aka Wind Talker) was going through his financial and housing situation hot and heavy, but alas, I am getting older and got side tracked.
Right now MJ is not only managing the site and committing his time to us but he is also paying for it.
My suggestion to help all of us out is this, we find out from MJ what the yearly cost is, I do not think it is very high and we post it up and figure out who will sponsor the site.
Have a sponsor list and everyone that can, sign up and we split the cost amongst us all. It should only be a few bucks and we help the Wind Talker through some tough times he is having.
I think it would be a pretty cool thing to have your site sponsored by the members. Like a big family we all contribute what we can.
Any suggestions for doing it better post em up.

I second that Willy. Great idea. Nobody shall have a say in how it is run except Windtalker, because I wouldn't change a thing.
I have seen other forums that allow sponsorship of certain sections. For a small annual stipend this would relieve MJ of some of the burden. Not that my opinion counts for squat, just throwing it out there.

Great Idea Willy!! I'm in and if MJ will continue to do us the favor of running this site as usual I think I can speak for all of us and say a BIG THANK YOU MJ!! Maybe we can all chip in alittle extra and help him get another boat!

Great suggestion WIlly. I've of a like mind and actually I sent him money months ago. But I'm sure it's gone by now and a refill is probably in order. It's always good to help out your fellow man. You know, sometimes life kicks you in the teeth, and sometimes you hit the lottery.
I'm thinking that MJ got kicked in the teeth with his health and finances, but I think he won the lottery with having us here to cover his six. So if we're gonna talk about covering it, lets actually do it. Put me down for whatever it takes.

Thanks guys!! The cost per year is nothing really, yodaddy is donating the server, Valiant is donating his time as our tec guy, so I just pay for the domain name to keep the site up which is like $10 a year.
What I would like to do is give something to Valiant and yodaddy for taking up there personal time and keeping all running!! Because really with out them there would not be a wellcraftv20 site! I know we could never give them what a real server gets or a real Tec guy would get but a little something would be nice. I use to give Valiant a little each year when I could, but as you guys know I am a poor man right now.
So what ever you guys come up with will be fine by me, just know the ones that donate will have no more power then the ones that can't! This has always been a free site and will stay that way for whop ever uses it as long as I have anything to say about it! As like now I will not allow swearing, porn, fighting or anything of the kind no matter who started it and won't have a problem booting anyone off the site, no matter if they pay or not!
Only reason I am even allowing it is to try to show yodaddy and Valiant that they are very much appreciated and we can't do it with out them! I want nothing!!
Thanks guys Joe

On a more serious note, too much good info., good entertainment and good folks here to not to give something back in return.

Based on what MJ said my suggestion would be for a Sponsor List in which the guys who sponsor the site pony up like 10 Bucks apiece and MJ distributes it to who he thinks it should go to.
Wind Talker I would suggest you divide it by three and put yourself in that three.
That would give a little something to all three of you for what you do.

that sounds very fair & helps the guy's that pay for this site run , but lets make it $15 and kick MJ some thing ( thoughts ) ?

Ok give me a few days, I am working on something. All great ideas!! Valiant is here from Mississippi and will be coming by my place in the next day or so, and I am going to run a few things by him.
I will set up a new paypal account that people can send there membership money to.This is great of all you guys!!
But I still have my worries about it, but will see how it goes? I have seen sites battle over people that give, and don't give, and I don't want that!! but have spoke to a few that are members of a few smaller sites that do it and have no problems at all, which is what I am hoping for.
I don't want to make this a cash cow!! Just cover the cost of running the board will be great!!
Thanks all !! I will be back with details in the next few days!

I am OK with passing on some cash to cover the site and really don't care about how the site runs. I do know about the Internet and computers (35 years worth). In order to make big cash you have to use this site to advertise other sites and manufactures normally using pop ups and redirecting user to different web sites, I can't see you doing that. You people here seem like an honest bunch of people who just love boating.

Could have and still could go that way, But I rather close the site then do that!! I hate pop ups and crap!! I go to sites all over the place that do that and hate them for the most part!

I think it should be anonymous.... I don't mind chipping in but I have no desire to rub it in to folks who don't....... I do think an admiral's club would be a good idea but maybe instead of making it a pay thing make it "by invitation only" A good place for private discussion but not exclusive to pay or not and not possible to buy your way into for say exwives or bosses or whatever....

Then instead of a sponsor link how about we just do a contributor list, no admirals club or any special benefits. I don't think anyone here would like that.
And it puts any fears of yours away MJ. Nothing changes.
Just a link here somehow that shows Contributors. That way we can keep track yearly, we have appreciation for those that do and thats it. We don't need anything more than that.
It is not a recognition of the contributors but a recognition and appreciation of the three of you guys that keep this site going.

Whatever amount yall come up with is fine with me. Im with the others as I dont need to know who gives or not, dosen't make any difference to me. I'll be working nights for the next few days, wont have much time to go on the site, so whatever you all come up with is ok by me. I just think all involved in keeping this great site running should be well compensatied for their time and intrest. Thanks MJ, Valiant, and Yodaddy!!! :sun::clap:

I'd be happy to contribute. This site helped me a lot through the years, especially when I went through the re-fit (holy crap, 9 years ago!). I don't post as much as I once did, but I always check in to see what's happening and contribute what little info I can when I can. When I couldn't get the site to open I dam n near went into a panic, was worried that it was gone for good. Whatever you all decide, count me IN.

This DOES bring up an interesting thought though. Here we have a good site with good people in it. We all seem to get along most of the time. We really should have a back-up plan though, a way to get in touch with each other should the site go down again for some unknown reason. Perhaps even a second generic site (WellcraftV20-1?) that we could go to? Just sayin....
Any thoughts?

I will or somebody on here open a wellcraft v20 Facebook account. We can speak and get all info from there if needed. And I think it will be kinda cool for everyone to see our boats on there. Just an idea, and its also FREE. We can have it for back up or whatever. It doesnt have to be publicly open for comments, just publicly opened to be viewed. If you guys want me to start one let me know. It would just another way for everyone to keep in touch.

I'm in for a donation to help compensate those whose efforts make this site possible. Not interested in any kind of special access or recognition though. I like the open forum. I think we all have something to contribute and do so because we enjoy being at part of this community. I say those that can should donate anonymosly and we will all continue to enjoy the site.

I believe MJ said there is no cost because its a donated/volunteer effort. That said, if you consider what a tech guy makes per hour - no reason to add up the hours valiant has put in. The consider what the site would cost if yo daddy didn't donate the server space. I think the thread has evolved into a minimal gift from able members to make these guys efforts worthwhile.

Tell me where to send my donation and I'll have it in the mail Monday, lets get this going, and I for one think MJ SHOULD take a cut from the money to recoup.

Whatever is decided, I'm in and will contribute...here's my thoughts on issues discussed...Of course ultimately non of this matters, cuz MJ is and should be the one to decide all issues...that said, here's some SUGGESTIONS...:)
Different amounts have been discussed...So why not accept different amounts in $5 increments...that way each can contribute something in line w/what they can afford.
Personally I don't believe any list of contributors should exist, other than what MJ keeps w/back up by Trident.
The $$ raised are sent to MJ and distributed by MJ at his discretion...he knows where it needs to go.
I personally wouldn't object to a YoDaddy logo occupying the right corner of the page in the top banner...I had no idea they were donating their services and feel some recognition would not be a bad thing...the logo would scroll away w/the top banner, but seen each time you log on...maybe even w/a link to their homepage
This has always been a one for all and all for one community...and special pages for contributors only creates a divide for those who can and those who can't...and no badges...it just becomes a divisive kinda thing.
An extra markup on T-Shirts would be a great way to raise funds also.
Those are my thoughts...this has been a great place for a long time because we are all equal here...Tim did us a solid by starting the site...Joe did another by taking it on and continuing the high standards...but even those two would agree, without the participation of all the members, what they did and continue to do would be for naught...
:clap:To all who make WellcraftV20.com a great place to visit...

All right it seems pretty well unanimous, no particular site list or whatever. Just each year in the beginning of the year each guy send what he can to MJ to disperse to ALL THREE GUYS.

i use this forum like i use facebook people on here are my friends. I get on here and talk bull**** and cry out my own personal problems and people read and comment--The is no other forum in the world that has the same values and respect as the Wellcraft V20 Comminty-- Even if you loose your mind for a while people are willing to keep giving you a go and not judge you by your mistakes-- I happy to donate money to a place that is here for the people not to just make money--There is a few active members on here that this place has become part of there life and im sure there is enough of us who will donate to cover the cost and to show thanks to the undercover workers that we are unaware of all the time they donate to this site---Dont worry about who dosnt donate
maybe these people who donate can be called foundation members on there profile instead of god to show others who is keeping this site up still leave it frre but at least members will know who they are and why shouldnt it be shown
just my 2 bucks worth
smokeonthewater

we don't want it shown because we don't want anyone to feel left out....
Let's say I make huge money and own a v-20 museum and you live in a tent and work cleaning v-20's for just enough money to eat..... This group of people is more like family than any other forum I've ever seen and if I give money and you simply can't I don't want you to feel like any less important member of the family than me.....
EDIT... just fixed a BUNCH of typos... I need to get some sleep LOL
