So I am almost done with the transom repair, and now to tackle the stringers -

I have heard many different stories about 'oil canning' when you replace stringers.

what is the best way to support the boat? I have been doing everything to date on the trailer. Will the trailer support the boat enough to remove and replace the stringers? or is more support needed? how do you know where to place the supports and how many?

I am planning on cutting the fiberglass down to within one-two inches from the hull and leaving that as a template for the new stringers and epoxy the plywood into the groove.

second question:

The center section of the boat has 'bulkheads'. how important is the bulk head placement? I was hoping to remove one and extend the gas tank to increase the fuel capacity - I would love to have 100-110 gallons.

Thanks

billymoca, it's doable. Go to the gallery under center console and look at my pictures. On page 2 you will see the original 50 gal tank (yellow) and on page 3 you will see how I got a 98 gal tank as well as 13 gal fresh water tank to work. Good luck!
