For me ..........ugly stiicks all the way..........strong, affordable, lots of models available.

I'm not the most " gentle " fisherman, so if I oops and step on one, it's not $ 400 shot, it's $ 50 + or -..........

There are two brands I love the most. One is the Ugly Stic by Shakesphere, the other is the Beef Stic by Diawa. Both seem to hold up far better than other rods I've had.

I love the ugly sticks, I have started to replace my old rods with them, as I use to make all my rods before my hands got bad.
I have a 6 1/2 CMS custom for Fluking, $225 at are local place and its a nice rod, I have it for sale now trying to make a few bucks. When I made my rods I use to love the St. Croix Blanks, that's my go to rod to this day and has caught 1000's of fish on one rod!

American Rodsmiths, Castaways and have some customs, a friend of mine builds them for a living.

I dont know how yall use ugly sticks, they are like limp noodles compared to the ones I an used to. I dont like my whole handle and reel seat bending when I bow up on a fish.

Inshore spinning I use Shimano Teramar, all my other bigger spinners are on Custom Key Largo rods. For jigging and alot of bottom fishing I use Shimano Trevala jigging rods. Lots of action and still have a backbone so I can horse snapper around if i lock down the drag on my Torque. As for my other bottom and trolling rods I have Penn International rods. These rods were recommended by my tackle store and I could not be happier with them.

For Surf, you got to check out the God Rod, only one guy in the world that has it. It is sweet and he is on this site.

Gawd Oh Mighty, one of a kind custom St. Croix. Letting that art work leave my house was one of the toughest will power tests I have had! LOL

Great reel, it looks like it was built for that rod

Don't leave it in the back of your truck, just saying

Looks like I will be using my Diawa surf rod this year, it has been hanging in the rafters for 10 years!! Only used it like 5 times. Have to get a new reel for it, I like to get one of them nice penn V's but have to wait to see if I have the cash, if not I have a old penn 650 I can use.
Which reminds me were the heck is that rod holder I =made for the pick up bed??

I fish 2 yellow ugly sticks spinning rods bws2201-2 commercially for seabass. Best rod I've used for this type of fishing. I don't take the rod out of the rod holder until the tip is bent over almost touching the water. Works great for tossing eels too.

one drift this past spring.
