Garagenc and a few others here have factory V-8 V-20's.

Yea that's a V 20 with a V8. Mine's a 91 and the engine cover looks exactly the same.
I "think" the ones with a 4 or 6 cyl had a different motor cover than the V8's. Mine's a 350 (5.7L).

Great fuel economy.

Yes Sir mine is a factory installed mercruiser 350 1986 V-20. If you care to look at the center picture under Performance thread page 8, title of [25 year old mercruiser survives salt water]you will see the factory set up.

What you can see of the motor cover in the Craigslist ad and the engine compartment in Steps pictures all looks the same as the '89 with the 3.7l 4 cylinder I used to have. There was alot more room under there with the 4 cylinder though.

I/O's are probably the best way to rig a V for speed - more horsepower for more speed.

A 60 mph V should be reasonably easy to achieve. There was a guy hitting a reported 70mph with one........

I love I/O but no one that I know of has bolted on twin Yammies at 300 hp each.Even 250hp twins will smoke a I/O. Now let me tell you I love UBHistory boat name and his great job he did with his 350I/O. but he even admitted to me that he is pushing 500hp plus. AWESOME. But i know if anyone would install twin 300hp outboards they should name their boat COLOR ME GONE.
By the way with my aluminum hardtop and enclosure with a fill 60gallons of gas and all fishing gear along with three people on board loaded to the top I reach a top speed of around 38 mph. Never tried it stripped down! :oh:
