Sunday we hit the water around 8, started fishing around nine and bam right away Michael gets this real short Fluke, Sal caught the shortest, around nine inches. That's how it was until THE BIRDS ARRIVED and it was COCKTAIL TIME. Had fun with them until they left, back to the Fluke. Guess what, the birds came back and it was have fun. I started to use my 4' ugly stick, a small Shimano reel with 8 pound test, what a ball. The totals for the day, 9 Fluke with one 20 inch keeper, caught by Lloyd and eleven cocktails we took home for people who asked for them.

a cocktail is a small bluefish. kind of subjective but usually between like 1 pound and 3 pounds. they are voracious and will hit anything that moves. we go after them on 4 pound spinning gear and they never disappoint.
many a trip has been saved by these mean little bastards.
