I talked to the guy this morning about the boat he said the transome is good. But he said that they are some soft spots in the floor. I am suppose to be leaving buy it know. Is it worth it or not with the soft spots? I really don't want to do any major work to the boat.

Honestly how soft is too soft to be worth the deal?

Plan on leaving in an hour or so to buy the boat.

Should I wait or not?

thanks

deshet...how soft is too soft is a tuff question...based on what $$/resources you've got to repair or if it's sturdy enough to live with for a while...trailering will be a question, too if you got lots to do...if you're close to ramp or will keep it in the water, then no probs...

Hey all,
Man was I bummed when I saw that deshet was going to buy this boat today. I didn't want to step on any toes(especially fellow v20.com guys) but this is exactly the boat I'm looking for and it's in my price range not to mention in my own back yard(about 20 mls. away). Anyhow I've made arrangements to see/test ride it tomorrow and hopefully will make the deal then. My plans would be to fish it as is for the fall/early winter and then have at it over the winter/spring. I've always wanted to do teak/ipe decks on a boat so the soft spots don't really bother me that much. I'll keep you all posted.

Hey guys,
I met with the owner yesterday after work and took the boat out for a ride. As usual the photos were a bit misleading. The floor is bad all over, and the boat has had so many plugs and patches. The "t-top" is rough at best, kind of a jury-rigged deal with the hood of a semi-truck for the actual top. It would be a good project for someone looking to really get into re-doing a boat(that's not me). It ran well and I didn't see the transom flexing although it had that "bloated" look of a transom that is wet. The foam in the bow area that I could see was very wet as this boat has been in the water for pretty much its entire life. I kind of think that the stringers might need some attention too. When underway the t-top swayed quite a bit probably due to the floor and console being week. The rear seat had been removed and the holes plugged with something(alot of holes plugged on this boat). The door to the console is missing and the door to the anchor locker was just a piece of wood slapped on. Overall the boat is too much of a product for me but I guess at that price I shouldn't expect too much. It might be a decent deal for one of you guys that really knows their way around these v20's. The owner was very nice and wasn't giving the hard sell and I honestly don't think he's trying to push something off on someone. He got it from his brother (who just bought a new 25 Parker) and has had it out a few times. The best part of the whole trip was where this boat was kept. It is in Bayonne, NJ which is a very industrial area right across the Kill Van Kull from Staten Island,NY. The "marina" is leased by all the members of this club and they all have these little shantys on the piers. They have devised a sort of marine railway to haul their boats in and out of the water and have all these huge timbers stacked up for storing the boats on the hard. It was so interesting. There is a few old wooden barges that were left to rot at the entrance to their place and tons of old pilings sticking up all over not to mention that this is in a major shipping lane for the refinerys. I'm not doing the place justice. I wish I had my camera, you guys wouldn't believe it. Anyway I'm going to call him today and pass on it. I'll keep looking, "my" boat will pop up eventually.

Hang in there with your search, as a matter of fact don't be too anxious.
I had just about given up and resigned myself to only using the canoe for fun, then out of the blue a neighbor of mine in the
trailer park decided it was time to sell the boat.

In other words, when you least expect it, good things happen.

For anyone interested in the 20'CC. The price was lowered to non-negotiable $3500 cash. The boat has to be worth this price. Even Ken might want to rethink this over. Anyway that is as low as it will go .. Thanks for looking......

MSBHAMMER, yes I did, my trailer neighbor has had it since new
and his wife has the big "C", his kids were not interested in the boat and he was only using it one week per year.
He said "I know it is going to a good home" so I'll sell it to you.
He still comes and checks on it to see that I am taking care of it.
I always offer to take him fishing, but he declines, cause he has friends in the park that are more his age.

That CC is worth maybe $2,000.00
You gotta consider the time and money to redo the floor and all. 3500.00, WAY To Much.
Parish, what ya pay for your cuddy ??

$2000 was what I paid, I then did some checking and found that
this was the deal of a lifetime, easily the whole set-up could go for 4 or 5 G's.

I'm with Hammer. If the whole floor is soft I would definitely be concerned about stringers. Could be a big project. If motor was newer maybe $3500, not with older outboard. I wouldn't go a dime of 2k.

Sounds like a new transom is definately in order along with stringers/deck. BIG JOB!
