View Full Version : Most annoying thing about owning the V boat

Or, what relatively little issue can annoy to no end........
To me - it's stains. Yup, nasty stains on the deck, usually the floor that are darn near impossible to remove.
Now that's why I sometimes think about owning a beat up but reliable rig. Stained, marked up, chipped, no shine, work boat. No waxing, never mind washing .
Like a beat up old car that runs fine. Door ding ? Who cares etc etc....
I just hit some stains from all the work I've been doing on the deck with every cleaner I've got to get it back to where I want it. Heck of a lot of work.

You must be talking about MY V-20...and my car.

to me, every scar tells a story. i've had this boat 20 years and worn out 2 motors on it. if soft scrub won't get it out, it stays. when we go to a raft up with other families, the kids always migrate to the v. they love to jump off the bow and swim back to the platform, scurry through the windshield and do it again. the other boats are newer, bigger , shiney and polished, and not kid-friendly.
no trailer queens for me, i'll clean & buff it when i get to old to take it out.

MaryKate On & Off hull and bottom cleaner. Serious stuff...follow all directions and use protection, but it will remove stains like nothing else, and will not harm fiberglass. This stuff contains a combo of hydrochloric, oxalic and phosphoric acids, so be careful with it and ONLY use it outdoors... NOT in a garage. It does NOT contain Muriatic acid. Gloves, Goggles, long sleeve shirt and pants, and a Vapor Mask are manditory.

For me its the way the transom wants to yaw out when the bow entry hooks into the backside of a quartering sea.

Most annoying? Hmmmmm...
1) Being dead on empty and having to fill it up.
2) Trailer & watercraft registration.
3) Not getting to use it every day.
4) 60 gallons is not quite enough, need 80 (but that would make #1 even worse!)

Wow - I heard a guy sprayed this stuff on his boat hull, then went back into the house for bathroom break. When he came back out - his boat was gone, and there was just a huge smoking hole in the ground where it had been !!
Now that's what I call a powerful cleaner !!

LOL... :you:
It's not quite that bad, but it is serious stuff. Will not harm fiberglass. I've used it many times.. First time I used it was on an old boat someone had given me... I had tried everything to get the stains off the hull.... with no success. I got this stuff, used a sponge to put it on and watched the stains disappear instantly...totally amazing product... But if you get it on your skin you'll know about it quickly. So you have to be careful.

I'm kind of an easy going guy... most things do not annoy me...but one thing that just makes me grind my teeth is the guy that (obviously) just got a boat and is trying to back down a ramp for the first time.....with 20 other boaters lined up waiting for him as he learns all about stearing the opposite of where he wants to go.....:bat: <sigh>

If I said I loved the eye would that make you take it down?? LOL. Cause I do love the eye. I thought it had something to do with your eyes and the issues you've had. I want to see the rest of her..
For me the most annoying is the lack of respect for the V-20 (in general)from other boat owners. Most of whom own a version of the stepped type hull made possible by Mr. Hunt.

ridge has a point, but i have also had a lot of "We used to have a v-20, never should have gotten rid if it. we had more fun in that boat, we used it a lot more than we use this one." etc.

My ONLY complaint is getting someone other than myself to get up on the bow to set the anchor when we're perching on Lake Erie.

The only thing that pi$$es me off about havin' a V20 is that I gotta buy gasoline to enjoy it...:nut::bsflag:

One good thing about it is that it's trimmed the heard...we had a good day last week at Hartwell...FISH WERE BITING!!...and we were one of a very few boats out...I think we only saw about 4-5 other boats the whole time...
