When applying a second coat of waxed gelcoat over a coat tha was applied a couple of days ago how heavy or light do you need to sand ?

I'm not for certain about gelcoat on gelcoat, when I painted my gelcoat about 5 years ago, I hit the gelcoat with a light 220 grit and I've had great adhesion.
