i had a couple of surgeries 2 weeks ago.had some repair work done one my left shoulder and just so i'd cut down on my time off from work i had them do the carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand while they were at it.
my surgeon is a good guy who is the team doctor for the OSU mens basketball team.i feel very lucky to have had him do the operation for me because he is one of the best in the nation.
he repaired 2 tears in my shoulder, debrided alot of arthritic buildup in 2 areas and the smoothed the underside of a bone that had some bad spurs on it.he said that everything went very well.
the pain was pretty bad for the 1st day or two and the nerve block they did on my arm was worse than the pain.very bothersome when you have no feeling like that.after that though the pain hasn't been bad at all.i've only used the pain meds at night mainly because they're narcotics and i don't like how they make me feel.
now the worst part is this sling that i have to use for 4 more weeks.i'm rowing in circles!!!
I've been doing some pt at home to stay somewhat flexible and keep a range of motion up but tomorrow starts the "real" pt and the surgeon told me that i'd need the meds after these sessions for the next few weeks.
the good part is that i'm healing up during the winter months but the bad is that i haven't been able to get to the pole barn to work on the boat.
hope everyone is having a great New Year!

Sounds like it went well....take the time to relax some. The work will be there when you get out of that sling. Never had to recover from a surgery like that but I hear those PT's can be real hard asses....Sound like your eager to get back at it though.

Praying for a speedy recovery for you.

Having been through PT on my shoulder before, trust the Dr. when he tells you to take the meds!
