I have a cox wz-loader tandem trailer, its a beast, and came with the boat, however it is pure hell to get the boat centered on. the rollers catch on the steps. what i was wondering was if it would hurt anything to bring the rollers closer together as those are the only places wide enough between the steps. would it cause it to be unstable if there is only one step between the upper and lower sets of rollers?

Our Alby rides on the trailer with very very narrow rollers and shes "ONLY" 7200 lbs. dry weight LOL!!!! it rides fine. I dont think you would have an issue.

My V21 is on a roller trailer - and it looks like the rollers on mine are inside of where your's are........ so I believe you'll be much better off moving em' in some !

My Dad had one of those Cox roller trailers when I was a kid...it was a real pain in the BEE-HIND!

Luckily between the two of us we could just shove up and over on the boat to jump the rib over the roller.

I vowed then to never own a roller trailer.

yep adjust em in.... also consider adding a cross member near the front with a self centering keel roller... I did that on an EZ loader I was using to haul a 26' carver flybridge and it completely solved the very same problem... I assume that your "wz loader" :you: would work the same.

:D

Here was my remedy for the exact same issue---with my Cox--I did the same thing--I adjusted the rollers everywhere--this is how I handled it--and it works--I power the boat on after sinking the trailer a bit over half way and it centers every time. First I mounted the boards and covered off of rough measurements and then loaded the boat and then had to jack up the boat and move the boards a hair to get everything where they needed to b and the boards bow just right to support the boat fully:nice:, and walah--perfect and would never go back.

I like Genie's conversion...it may truly not be for everybody...but if I woke up w/a roller trailer in the driveway tomorrow, I'd have to give that whirl...

Man, what happened to the simple design of keel rollers and bunks. It's been my staple for most boats.

Nothin' wrong w/THAT!!...easy to load/unload...fully supportive all around...and built like a Sherman tank!!...Back to basics usually works pretty good!!...

My modification was inexpensive and used everything from the old trailer--Just had to by some nuts and bolts-planks and carpeting along with stainless staples. It worked great and cost around $200 --just lucky on my design that it worked well. Just wanted as much support as possible--I do alot of long hauls over rough roads headed out to the coast fishing.

Good luck!!

Like that old Cherokee...it worked and required little maintenance. So, Chrysler...I mean trailer manufacturers did away with it in favor of other things that didn't hold up as well.

I bought a new roller trailer this year and had the give a mechanic 125 dollars to adjust it cause i had the same problem you are having and the solution is that he brought the rollers very close together i mean there so close there almost touching but the boat centers it self and tyhe winch strap goes on straight so move the rollers together i have a 1978 steplift

Beleive me I did that--on these Cox trailers--I do not think they would work on any boat--I moved the rollers all over--per 3 different people who set up boat trailers. Bunk it!
