The Japanese love tuna....but $1200 per pound is flat out nuts!

The article I read said the guy who bought it will sell it for $5 a piece in his restaurants. It comes down to advertising. Put it this way, he couldn't have spent 736k in advertising and have this link posted on every forum on the web. But, if he wins the auction and breaks the record for highest price paid...............then he can.

I love tuna too (sushi grade).
But not quite that much.
Hope it is just a publicity thing and does not increase prices here.

the second link explains pretty well why the first fish of the year seem to get bid up in Japan....

They sold one here in va beach yesterday at the fishing center for 20 dollars a pound. The fish weighed 256 pounds. It was a bluefin.
