Cutting legs for the stand

Legs cut out ready to go on the tank. This is after cutting the bottom off and removing the rubber air bladder. Tank was clean inside, just a little rust.

Squared up and welded with 1.25" flat bar

Had these nice heavy duty casters laying around:

1/2 Cup-soy sauce
1 Tbs-liquid smoke
1 Tbs-onion powder

Yep BR thats a well tank I think.

Progress from this weekend. Door and hinges welded up. Took me a little while to bend her all out straight from the warping due to welding but its a pretty tight fit. Also going to use some of the fiberglass rope gasket on the door and firebox door for a good seal. Started on the firebox and ran out of cutting fuel. Gonna try and finish cutting out the box walls this week if i can get some more fuel in time.

Dad said it was a very large old air tank. What sux is he threw the other half on the scrap truck, which could'a made another heavy duty burn barrell. Of course that was almost 20 years ago.

Looks nice, is the box gonna be on the side and what are you burning?

Yes, offset down lower on the side. (where you see the semi circle hole in the upper pics)

Box is made of 1/4 plate. Will be burning same thing I do in my upright drum smoker. Charcoal/wood mix. I got a buddy that runs a power line clearing comany and I got a NICE supply of cherry/hickory and oak built up for smoking. Not to mention a ton more for the fire place.

Also my partner that hunts with me built a setup at the camp thats a barrel inside a barrel kinda deal with a tall exhaust and we make our own charcoal. Nothing like making your own and picking what flavor charcoal..oak/hickory/etc..that you want to use on the meat. Then add your wood and its FINE. The stuff we make is way better than anything you can buy. Lights fast and burns a loong time. I do use store bought too though.

Nice project.

I built one myself with the help of my two boys, we had fun building it so now we all have fun with it.
If you can get extra 1/4 plate, go the extra mile and insulate your fire box, trust me it's a nice investement as you'll save fuel, especially if you burn natural charcoal and/or briquetts.

You also can get lots of info right here:http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=30&sid=d1a0010ea0ea2676573a5509d16f634f

I have pics of my own build on the above forum if you guys want to see!

If I get the opportunity this weekend at the hunting camp, I plan on getting about a 60-80lb sow hog to split and put on whole. :hide:
