To me, the "arrogance of officialdom" is the root problem...then and now...

Well it took Rome 1,000yrs to get to that point......
It took us 250.......

I do believe that inevitably we are destined for the the fastest rise and fall of great civilizations.
Kinda like the one-hit wonder of what will become the modern world......
