A couple of friends bought boats this year and asked me how to winterize their motors. One is a 3.0 Mercruiser I/O that by the way he decribed it is just fresh water cooled (no heat exchanger). I told him to look on the block for drains or petcocks to drain out the water. The other guy has a 125 Saltwater Series Mercury OB. I told both to drain and refill the lower units with fresh gear lube and grease all grease fittings on the drives and steering. Yall got any suggestions on what I missed? Thanks!

3.0 Mercruiser depending on the year, has one drain on the block(port side under the manifold) and one drain on the manifold(just above the block drain), if its a late model, it will have two hoses with quick connects on them with a stupid handle hooked to the hose, you undo the quick connects and push the hoses into the bilge to allow the water to drain. If its an older engine, it may have a drain on the exhaust elbow. If it has power steering on it, check the power steering cooler, just pull the water hose off the lower end and let it drain. Run either engine on a fuel blended with stabilizer, make sure you leave the lower unit(or motor) in the down position to prevent water from entering the exhaust housing and freezing
