Just bought last night from a super nice guy here in Wilmington. 1994 v21 with a 2002 Yamaha 130. The floor and transom are rock solid, no soft spots anywhere...even the fuel tank cover. The seat cushions are all shot, I may be able to save the one on the bench seat. Cushions in the cuddy are in great shape. Bimini top is good, has curtains but I haven't seen them yet. The motor is very clean, runs great but will only get up to about 18-20 mph or less, PO said he talked to a mechanic (over the phone) that thought it needed rings and pistons. I have not run a compression check yet, hopefully in the next few days. If the motor is shot I can live with that, I really wanted the hull for the condition it was in. The boat didn't have a trailer, so I'm in the market for one. I would like to get in to one for $500-$800, I only live a couple of miles from the ramp so I don't need it to be too nice. Can't wait to get it home and clean it up. When I picked my 5 year old son up from school yesterday I said guess what I bought today...He said "crab legs for supper", I said some thing a lot better than that, He said "ribs?" I said no, a new fishing boat, his next sentence was "I can't wait to catch a big dolphin". That boy is definitely my son.

I can hear lil E sayin that 100%. I like the fact that he ACTUALLY guesses when you say "guess what?" Those were some FINE guesses too I might add.

I've been about as excited as you ever since you told me yesterday. It was all I could do not to post this before you! Can't wait to see it, fish it, live it baby!!

Get that compression checked ASAP. Once we see that is good we can start trying to find this gremlin.

Congratulations brother!

Talked to Rick again this morning. He spoke with the prev. owner again about the situation with the motor. Basically, no diagnostics have been done and all the prev. owner did was talk with a mechanic over the phone telling him the engine wasn't making full power. Mechanic said "it could need rings/pistons?" So the prev. owner advertised as worst case as not to misrepresent it.

I don't want to get Rick's hopes up too much (or my own) but I'm hopeful it is nothing major. For the price he paid even if the motor is shot he still got a smokin deal......if the motor only needs a minor repair such as fuel pump, carb work, etc. then SOMEBODY WILL NEED TO CALL THE LAW ON REH76!! :sun:

Thanks guys!! I gave her a little scrub down at the dock today. I can't wait to get her home (after I find a trailer) and do a real cleaning. I moved it from the PO's dock to my friend's dock this morning, fired right up, purred like a kitten the whole 4 miles, but would not get above about 4500 RPMs. It would not even go as fast I thought yesterday...only got to about 11 or 12 MPH today WAO.

It was turning 4500 and only going 11 or 12 mph?......spun prop hub maybe?

Blue_Runner

RW - as many times as that has happened to me (spun hub) you'd think I'd have thought of it first! Rick - he may be onto something. I don't know about a 130 for sure but a 150 at 4500 is gonna plane very quickly and run up into the mid to upper thirties. When you can, take the prop off and inspect the rubber around the prop hub. If it is spun you'll be able to tell most likely. It'll have little bits of chewed up/burned up rubber. If you can't tell by looking you can mark it, then run it, check again to see if it is slipping. This happened to Garrett not even 6 months ago with his little 15 hp. Could still get it to plane but it hub was slippin like crazy.

Good call RW.

Reel, thought about that too. Still could be that? We'll figure this out one way or another.

Update from the weekend:

REH was able to mark the prop and take her for a spin Saturday. Yep, prop was SLIPPIN!! Thanks RW!

He was able to get another prop, same pitch and diameter - 13 x 17. Took it for another spin. Vast improvement. Turned 5100 RPMs. Much quicker outta the hole but still has an issue with WOT. No GPS aboard but guage said around 18mph. First, I don't trust the speed guage attached to the motor, tho it may very well be correct. Second, the boat sat in the water for a while and has quite a bit of barnacle growth on the hull. Based on everything we've read, this could slow you down quite considerably - which makes a lot of sense (I've never kept one in the water long enough to know firsthand).

I'm thinking this: get that bottom scraped smooth and try it out. Take along the handheld GPS. If speed is still an issue, start looking at prop pitch and diameter.

Thoughts?

p.s. I have not seen or ridden in the boat. I am over 200 miles away so everything I'm relating is 2nd hand info so Rick, feel free to correct me where I may have misquoted you!

does it have bottom paint on it? make sure to get that hull clean

Yes, bottom paint. Don't know how many coats? What I've read about the barnacles says they're a lot easier to remove if you don't let them dry.

It looks like it has one coat of paint and one coat of barnacles. I'm going to pull it out early one morning, get some peanut juice and good music, and just go at it all day.

Peanut Juice = Busch Lite for those that don't know. It will be in the urban dictionary one of these days.

Busch Lite? Might as well drink water

That's my working & beach beer, it is kind of like a real beer cut with water. I go complete opposite when I'm just going to have a few, Guinness, New Castle, Sam Adams...
