i had a v20 i think it was a 1978. the cockpit was deep and the sides were high when u were standing in the back of the boat. i looked at a 1990 v20 and the sides were below my knee when ur in the back of the boat. does anyone know what year wellcraft made the sides on the boat lower ? or is it possible they raised the floor height ? either way i want one thats deep and im not sure what is the year they changed it. any help would be great.

I just went out and stood against the inside gunwales of my '84...at the rear of the cockpit, right at the floor drains, the tops were a good 2-2.5 inches above the top of my knees and I'm 6'4"...my '95 V-21 was much the same...I've got a feeling a previous owner, for some reason, raised the floor deck in the particular boat you are talking about...even prior to self-draining floor decks and raising the height of the cap, which was in the 70s, I don't recall the top of the gunwale being below my knee...somethings not as it came from the factory w/that boat, IMHO...

They changed at least twice, late eighties they gained about an inch or so and again in the 90's boats.
Believe it or not thIs was a big improvement in the design as it gave the boats much better self bailing and prevented the water coming into the scuppers when people were standing in the back fishing.
While I like the extra two inches in cockpit depth my first V had I much preferred the drier faster self bailing design that was in my second 92 V.
I would say around 88 or 89 was the first year with the higher floor.

On sunday I went and looked at a steplift and the sides hit me right below my knees. when talking to the PO and noticing the glass layed up on the the floor did he admit that he put 3/4 over the factory floor. It also had ilet bolts in the floor with turnbuckles taking pressure off the motor because the transom was literally falling off the back of the boat. And he wanted $3000.00 for this P.O.S.
