After joking around recently that I should sell my boat for lack of use I finally got out not once but twice this weekend!!!
Friday afternoon took the family for some fluke fishing....Drifted around the Ambrose channel from about 5 pm until 8 pm....plenty of 17" fish...I need to get bigger bait. The sunset was one of the best I've seen....was an unusally clear afternoon for mid august. As the sun was setting to the west the full moon was rising to the east.....Picture perfect really.
Saturday took my son and my neighbor with his 2 boys tubing on Lake Hopatcong...the boys were on top of the world.

Let me know if you plan on coming...its only about 1/2 hour from my house (assuming normal traffic) It can get a little crowded on weekends although this past Saturday was surprisingly light as far as tubers/skiers was concerned. There's a fair amount of bars and restaurants on the water and a cove where everyone anchors up and hangs out.

Yea my son is 8 this year and he's just starting to actually be a real help around the boat...holding lines, picking up the wheel chocks when launching....working the net...(although I have to remind him to pick the fish up out of the water and just dont hold the net in the water!) He seems to have a good head on his shoulders...he kind of impressed me when we were putting the boat back on the trailer. I leave the boat in gear at idle when need be to keep the boat from rolling back down the trailer while I climb over and put the hook on....He was in the boat and once I had the hook on I clearly and slowly gave him direction to pull the throttle back towards him to take it out of gear. He could tell how seriously I was giving him directions and sensed that if he screwed it up it would not be good....he just said quietly...."I think you should do it"...kind of like that vs going off half cocked....

He'll let ya know when he's ready...but at one time, I did take mine out in the middle of the water where they couldn't hit anything and gave them the wheel...had 'em shut it down, restart, plane up and eventually load on trailer...
