View Full Version : Other Mfg's V-20's
Steplift 72'

I've said that an old fishing buddy had a heavy waterlogged V-20 clone with an OMC sterndrive. It seldom ran because of the old sterndrive, he finally tore the floor out and found the foam level full of water. While looking on E-bay for boats I found a "Seabird" original advertisement from 1967. The boat was called a Seabird V-202 and it's not just close, it is the real deal with a Seabird name on the side. In fact I think it's the earliest version I've seen with the Wellcraft style, almost flat 3 piece windshield. I suppose the Formula 233 is still the most copied, but this might be close to the worlds most reproduced & copied boat if you add them all up. Alim, Glasspar, Seabird, Wellcraft, Chapparal, Cruise, Campagna (24' including a 3' fantail). Any other copies known?

My dad has the very same Seabird you are talking about. It resembles the V 20 in a lot of ways....hull is really close, the top cap seems to be different. Its one great boat. He has a 4.3 to a Volvo.....shoves her around 40

I think Chris Craft nail the lines better than any of them, The shear line alone makes it the best looking version of the hull, just a shame the construction of the Chris' weren't up to par

Neighbor has what he says is a '72 Vega. Same hull with a different cap, even has the little dip below the rubrail at the very front of the bow.
The Chris Craft's have a sharp keel instead of rounded one like our Wellcrafts, A rounded keel is said to ride better.

The continious v to the stern on the Chris craft makes it a great riding boat under power on plane. You put a boat like that on the hook or a drift or slow troll and she will wallow like a hog. My albemarle is terrible on a drift or on anchor especially with the hardtop
