Fluke/Cow Nose

Fished the Ambrose yesterday, around the islands in 55' of water. We managed 38 Fluke with one keeper @22" and one Cow Nose Ray. I would say 98% of those fish were a fat 18"-19 1/2" fish. There was also a Cow Nose thrown in with that, happily returned. We watch this one boat with NY tags, catch short Fluke, put them in a net and toss it over the side. I should have taken a picture or a video.

cant really tell from the angle but that looks more like an eagle ray to me.

My wife and I were fishing in the Raritan bay, out in the shoals and there were small schools of these on the surface of the water (in several different spots) splashing their wings at the surface. At first, we thought they might be small sharks but when checking through my binoculars, I saw that they were what you caught. very odd.

i love seeing schools of rays swim by. because alot of times you can see a cobia or two following them.

If I'm not mistaken the Eagle Ray's have white dots or specks along their body, I might be wrong. In the New York area they are called Cownose Ray's, which is different than the Eagle. They might be part of the same species, but not the same.

i love seeing schools of rays swim by. because alot of times you can see a cobia or two following them.

Last year we were tuna fishing .....BIG cow nose rays swimming around in a school....as soon as you saw the rays, you were hooked up with tuna.

BTW....looking up google images of cow nose vs eagle ray I'm voting cow nose rays.
