Well Snaggers, got my first real opportunity to really run FishBones with the new engine, etec 200HO.
Two and three guys, coolers 3/4 tank, all the gear, cruise 3800-4000 rpm 27-29 mph
Top speed so far is 42mph and am hitting 5600 rpm.
Sea conditions were a little breezy with a quartering sea and just about a two foot chop.
Have not finished the 20 hour above 2500 rpm break in period yet, she is still double oiling.
As per the etec gurus i will se a couple hundred more rpms when that is done and a few more mph's.
I have found that though this prop looks like the one I would like to see her hold plane at lower rpms and speed like my old engine combo did for those bad chop days when I can't run over it.

I wouldn't hesitate to have the discussion w/ Barnacle Bill's re staying on plane at lower RPMs...what size prop was on the old motor?...and it could be after she's no longer double-oiling, you might pick up enough torque to satisfy that...

I will have to check but I believe it was a 15x17 stainless, really not sure as I was doing the prop shuffle for awhile trying to find the right one.

I would send your current prop out and have em put some more cup in it. That will help the bottem end bite, and bring your WOT down about 150-200. The REBEL is a good prop and is the equiveant of a MERCURY MIRAGE or MICHIGAN WHEEL APOLLO large diameter. And sorry about missing your call earlier, today has been a LONG day and I'm just now getting to eat dinner.

Willy, I thought your ETEC was high, so I called my boat buddy. He just installed an ETEC 150 with controls for $14900.00. So in saying that, you got a great deal.

Keep us posted how yours holds up. My buddy and his dad have them and so far they've changed 3 injectors, some kind of coil and now the Number 5 cylinder is gone in one. To make matters worse, Evinrude can't find his original paperwork and get this, said because of the high hours on it for being two years old, he must be using it for charters and therfore its no longer under warranty:oh: This is gonna get interesting...........

Even better: He went to his mechanic who is an evinrude dealer to diagnose a problem he had before the cylinder went, guy told him to run it hard and let it breakdown so he could send it off to Evinrude for a new one........

Did I mention this is gonna get interesting?????????

...a lot of problems are do to dealers not stepping up to the plate...

as well as improper dealer installation and dealer followup....I don't think either will be the case for you...

In regard to the dealer situation there is another apparently common problem, the dealers are setting them Up to fall into the operating range on boats. BRP came out with a service bulletin to all dealers, every year, they must be set up to run what is called the optimum range, which is generally around 5600-5900 rpm with a normal load.
A lot of dealers do not want to play around prop wise or simply do not care.

dealers are everything with an Etec, thats why I don't recommend Etecs around here, you've only got two choices, neither one is that good. I can probably point you to 12 or 15 qualified yamaha techs around here,8 0r 10 Suzuki guys, 10 or 12 good mercury techs, only 2 or 3 verado guys. 4 or 5 Honda, and I'm only 1 of three or four guys stupid enough to work on I'O's in this area

" my modo is you want cheap you usually get cheap "

lumber, my dad used to tell me, if the only complaint you had about something was the price, you probably got a good deal.

Good luck Willie. I'll keep my Yamaha 4 stroke w/ 760 hrs, 3.6 mpg with 7 passengers this time of year. Only thing other than normal maintenence was replacement of "O" rings in the trim/tilt. A great local mechanic and dealer in our area helps too. It's a matter of personal preference. Get some hours on that puppy before you have to winterize it. Winterize is like a swearword to you guys up north. Yesterday our water temp was 92 degrees.

Doin' great. Which boat did you install the ETEC on? You need to winter vacation in Florida. Bring along all your toys. You won't have to shovel snow.

I aint towing that puppy down there, we will have to give your Yammie a work out.

Not yet, waiting till I get past twenty above 2500 break in to see what I end up with max rpm wise.
According to my buddy who has two 2011's on his boat he saw 400 rpm rise once the ECM took it off double oiling and whatever else it monitors.
That is probably why my installer told me this is the prop, I got hours more to go and I have already seen a 200 rpm rise to 5600 running a little lighter than normal.
Once I find out and she is settled in I will see what she is going to do at lower rpm,s for my low speed planing.
