Well, we went out Saturday afternoon about 4 miles in hopes of getting enough Black Sea Bass for dinner. I could see them all over the bottom in the spots that always produce, but they had lockjaw.

Joey caught 2 Sand Sharks which gave him a big thrill, we kept one for dinner and it was excellent table fare.

Sunday we headed out about 20 miles to a favorite spot for King Mackerel. I had studied the reports, the water temps, and the wind, and I, along with about 20 other boats, thought that the Kings would be there. If they were there, they didn't let anyone know about it.

We did pick up a few Spotted Sea Trout, Black Sea Bass, 3 Sand Sharks, and an undersized Grouper off of the bottom.

I expect in 2 weeks when I go back, the kings and mahi will be in range for me and my small gas tank.

Joey with his first ever shark.

Pawpaw holding on to Joey so the shark didn't pull him over. (It was pulling hard on the light rod he was using).

An Oyster Toad Fish, said to be good to eat but too slimey and ugly for me to mess with.

I realize now that most of the pictures were taken by my Dad on his camera, I don't have them to post.

Good day on the water.

I caught one of those toad fish before,
when I pulled it in, I thought it was a mutant from the nuclear power plant.
Fugly little MoFo's.

I am truely blessed REEL.

My kids are beautiful, healthy, smart, and they all like boating/fishing/beaching.

Gracie (6) asks everytime we go to the coast "daddy, can't we just live here".

"daddy, can't we just live here".

She 's got a point...after all, they need cops at the beach, too ;) ...

RB - good report. Looks like fun. I know those kids enjoyed it! And how'd you rate gettin your dad on the boat? Mine has only fished with me once or twice and one of those was the best flounder fishing I've ever done in my life. Dad and I caught 60 in 2 hours of fishing.

Sounds like you'll be going to the beach quite a bit this summer. I'll let you know next time I plan on going. If we aren't too far apart maybe we can buddy boat out to the fishing grounds. Maybe we can even get Skools out on the boat too ;) I like fishing with other boats. At Hatteras I didn't get to use the radio a bit, but did hear others talking about thier catch(es). Together we can divide and conquer ;D

My dad started taking me fishing when I was barely able to walk. We have fished together ever since.

Yeah, we are planning on several trips over the summer, at least every two weeks. (Staying @ mom and dad's free place ;D).

REEL,

They do have cops at the coast, but they don't pay enough to buy a house there. Plus, if the 25 year retirement passes this year, I'll only have 5.5 years left anyway.

I hear ya on the 5.5 years.....I'm staring at 30 more :-[ :'( :o

Hey Reel, that 3rd week in July might work out perfectly for me. I have 2 business trips planned for July, one is the 2nd week and another for July 30. Maybe I can sneak a trip in between. I really won't know very far in advance. Are you going to Holden? I have agood friend with a 26ft Sea Hunt down at Morehead. Maybe I can see if he needs a couple bodies for an offshore trip to Big Rock.

I'll be at Sunset Beach that week...can run as far as, say...Wilmington...never have but I don't see why not...labii and I met up in Southport which is right between Sunset and Wilmington...that'd be about a 2 hr run up the ditch for me... 8) ...

The last week in July as in the 23 - 29? ;D

I run to Southport/Baldhead often, Wilmington/Wrightsville is not much farther up the ditch.

Sounds like we may be able to come up with something here.

RB - sounds like a plan. My good buddy has been promising me a trip there. His g/f's parents have a house nearby.
Those dam oyster crackers love biting divers. I hate em.
They have incredible jaw power! I have noticed it several times when we catch them by the rock jetties. They have no regard for thier teeth either. They will bite down as hard as they can on a pair of pliers! Never been bitten by one and don't plan on it ;)

The more the merrier I always say, except when I have to pay the bill for all of em.

My wife called me @ work Sunday and said, "Hey, lets go to the beach next weekend". ;D ;D ;D

Heck yeah, I can get up early on Saturday morning, get some work done on the V, then we can boatride in the afternoon, go lay on the beach Sunday morning before comming back, yeah baby yeah.

Yesterday she tells me, "I have too much work to do, we can't go to the beach".

BUMMER!!!! :'(

But I am looking forward to this July meet up.

R'man...your wife is a "tease" ... but whatever you do, DON'T tell her I said it ;) ... ;D ;D ;D ...

Frayed...right now it's lookin' like Fri 7-20 ... that'll be my last full day down there and it'll enable R'man and BR to hook up on Sat the 21st and talk about what a A$$HOLE I am 8) ...rather be insulted than ignored ;) ... ;D ;D ...

Adm. Knot is having some apprehension, she thinks it will just be a bunch of necks telling fishin stories. I told her other V20 widows and offspring will likely be there AND a bunch of necks telling fishin stories. Who's right?

It'll be a bunch of red-neck women tellin' fishin' stories and yellin' at offsprings ;) ... and shoutin' honey-doos at us ;) ... ;D ;D ;D ...

But I'm bringin' my dog...when I tell her to be quiet and sit down, she does it :D ...

It will be family time, wife and 3 kids (Joey 10, Summer 8, Gracie 6) will be along. We are fairly redneck and Joey and Summer will tell a fish story, but theirs are usually true.

I will have innertube and skiis with me for dragging the kids, a couple fishing rods just in case, and a nice picnic.

I'm gonna try and convince her to come, she needs a break from work. I think we will try and pitch a tent at the KOA in Shallote unless somebody has a better idea. Either way, I'm gonna be there!! ;) I'm thinking of coming down the evening of the 19th and staying through to Sunday afternoon.

randlemanboater

If you are going to tent camp, the Holden Beach Pier has ocean front camping for tents, I'd think the KOA would be miserable in July, its not near the water to get the breeze, its in the swamp.

Uh-oh, I had her convinced with the pool and electric and cable hookups at the tents sites. Has the pier got a website?

I found a few pics of the Holden beach pier campground and read a few reviews and I don't think the Admiral would go for that. Gonna do the KOA. There are elec hookups at some of the tent sites, I'm gonna bring a fan or three.

There are usually condo's available on Oak Island-Long Beach, across from one of the piers.
