OMG - got the transom cleaned out and found the ends of the stringers.
One soft one not detected.
Cutting out back to first fish well.
Alittle anoyed with Mr. Hunt.
Removed bulkhead with my hand. It seems the fishwells just drain into the bottom. Seems like the fish wells should be connected with drains?
Any way trying to weigh the materials cost. The deck is glassed top and bottom... with another boat.
Don't really want to give up.....
Again worried about materials and my skills.....

Megan, like I said in my first post.. just take your time and stick with one thing at a time..otherwise the job will simply overwhelm you. You'll do fine.. The fact that you're even trying to do this job is a testament to you..

Or come and get my hull and then you only have to deal with the transom, plus you'll have a hull that is almost 20 years newer

Looks like from her earlier posting about keeping it in RI, she's up north. LA is probably a bit to far to pick up a project.

Hmmm... you're right on Hedge.. I remember her mentioning RI now that you mention it. Shame the thing doesn't come on a trailer.. we could set up a sort of relay... there's enough of us scattered between here and there that it wouldn't be all that hard... :head:

I am in Virginia and an 1980 sounds good. But I do like the cuddy for protection. Mother Nature you know...
Sorry I haven't posted sooner. Been Busy stingers were bad. Removed 80% of the deck. After I heaved it over I had to have a glass of wine.
Now I am trying to figure the best way to fix the design drainage issues.
It they had fiber glassed the interior stringer better it just may have worked. The deep V looks cool with out the deck. Sure looks like a good place to but a gas tank vs the fish wells that seem to cause so many problems.
Think I want to get the book about Fiberglass Hull inspections to make sure I am good to rebuild this thing.
Finally hocked my engagement ring to get a motor.
Sorta sad may never have another nice diamond.

Not sure how to do this. Its Megan, I live in Virginia. If I take this boat to the bone yard I have a trailer. Old enough to not have brakes?
Today I investigated how far up I would have to cut the stringerz. Alas I think too far. In front of the passenger seat maybe farther. Will cut out the last bit tomorrow. The cuddy is connected to the liner and married to the sides. I hinted to my son that someone might give us the same boat center consol. He said DO IT. He bought the first boat with money he had from a pony when he was littler. We wanted the money to stay in the entertainment catagorie. Today he was watching utube videos of striper fishing in RI. So far I have done everything I can with this boat. But as I have said from the beginning it has to be safe!
So far Sort of like the layers of on onion....

Megan, we have several folks on this site in Virginia. I bet some of them would help you get your existing boat off the trailer, get your trailer road ready, and you could go to New Orleans and back in a weekend. Pour some Arjay in the transom (you already know how to clean out the bad wood in a transom), get a motor, and you and your son will be out on the water before the summer ends.

Gave up when the sringer was bad all the way to the front. And in the 1972 that is under the cabin. Not good design. Keel also slightly rotten. Can't take it. Love the offer of help!!! Still want a cuddy for the ocean. Now I am so bumbed by the design of emptying into the bildge I have, I hate to say it, been looking at Grady Whites. $9000 range. If you know of any killer deals I may swing back. But the NADA book value has to be consistant with $9000. Hope not to PO anybody Still love the look of the V. I am probably taken her to the bone yard tomorrow as I need to bring the project to closure.

failed,
Megan

just curious as to what your reasons are for wanting a cuddy? if your not going to leave the boat in the water, or just plan on fishing the rivers, then the cuddy isnt much benefit on the chesapeake.

Can't say I agree with that. If you go out in the winter, you'll stay a whole lot warmer behind the windshield and cuddy cabin than you will in a center console. I'm on the Chesapeake in VA, too - just down near the mouth of the Bay.

Lower Chesapeake here....I love my center console but she is def in the minority down here....cuddys abound and seem very functional on the bay! I think it just depends on how you use the boat, no matter the body of water....

i have a 76 cuddy, my only issue with it is the bow is a bit heavy and can scoop a bit of water from time to time, i live in va beach. probably wouldnt have any problem if id pay more attention to the weather report and quit anchoring so close to the channels, big damn wakes. i fish, thats about it. got the cuddy because it was too good a deal, and the wife demands a certain amount of privacy. got to agree definatly alot of cuddys around here. got to give the hull design credit though, got caught in a storm a few weeks back, 3 ft chop on top of about 3ft waves, opened her up and brought her back rather easily, crabpots be damned.lol
