hello i am from central NJ and i have a 87 steplift i am looking to redo the dash when the guages are does anyone know about how much it will cost for a simply 4 gauge set up and redo the plastic. and if so where can i have it done at

Pretty much all of us here are wrench turners... meaning that we tend to do our own repairs and mods if possible. You can find nice gage sets on eBay for reasonable prices. As far as someone to do it for you, that's usually a local issue.. You'll have to find someone in your area that can do the work. I'd suggest a carpenter rather than a marina. He can make the dash panel and the cutouts for the gages, then all you have do is wire them up. :beer:

i was thinking of buying a peice of starboard and placing it over the old one and doing it myself do you think that will work

Absolutely....like Destroyer said thats the way most do it....There was a guy on here that sponsored for a while that made custom setups with the Wellcraft logo and all....somebody here had one made and it looked awesome. I'll see if I can find but you can try a search....depending on what kind of tools you have you could spend a ton of money if you need to go out and buy hole saws and mandrels and all. I personally like black plastic by the way for a dash instead of white.

I used Starboard on mine and I think it came out fine. Would of loved to have it angled up a tad more though.....

kinda hard to see, but I made this dash with black plexi, I cut out all th holes and made the screw holes before I peeled the paper off. Then i sanded the edges smooth, ran across the edges with a propane torch(it work real good) to give it that finished look. I painted teh back side with black paint to make it look better

When I got a new motor with a single gauge, I removed the old cracked plastic dash and threw it away. Replaced with black 1/2" starboard. Replaced all switches with a new switch panel.

If you can use a saw, a router, and a drill, or know someone who can, its a snap.

Measure three times, think about it again, measure again, cut once....

...realize it don't fit...buy new material, doubling the cost...measure another 3 times...then one more time...cut half way, stop, measure again...realize the flange will just cover the over-cut...keep cuttin and make up something to CYA when you post yer sh!t on the board...
