Looks like this boat went cheap? The eBay ad is still up but the eBayer added a note yesterday saying, "Boat was sold at Buy It Now price." So wonder why the auction is still up?

They also made this boat in an outboard version. I've seen a few in Fl. but they're much more than the straight inboards.

I had an albemarle 27 with straight inboard 350 chevys and my take on the inboards vis a vis outboards is fishing room taken up by motor boxes etc and they are all *** heavy and difficult to dock etc even with twin screws. On the fuel thing they do suck up the gas. On the albemarle it was a toss up as to what to name it...thirsty or double trouble..if I can help it I will never have another inboard or I/O..A friend of mine has a 31 ft lobster boat that he is spending a fortune on with a new cat diesel engine and transmission etc etc etc. and with about 330 hp will be luicky to get 22 mph out of it . I told him that if it were me I would bracket that puppy and put twin 150's on it off ebay for $5K and be done with it and shed a few thousand pounds of weight and gain about 10 MPH which would push that old semi-displacement hull at around 32 or so...but thats just me...Frank

I *told him that if it were me I would bracket that puppy and put twin 150's on it *off ebay for $5K and be done with it and shed a few thousand pounds of weight and gain about 10 MPH which would push that old semi-displacement hull at around 32 or so...but thats just me...Frank
You can't efficiently (or even safely) push a displacement hull like that to 32 MPH....22 is pushing it in itself! *They're not designed for it. *People have been killed in Maine during the annual Lobster Boat Races doing that crap. *Rolls right over.
He may be spending some money right now repowering it, but he won't be repowering for a LOOOOOONG time now *;)
Diesel Inboard......single screw......way to go. *Efficient as hell, easy maintenance......longevity.
Yes, the displacement/semi-displacement hulls are slower, so if you want speed, you won't like them. *You'll cruise (on a decent hull) between 16-20 kts. *Difference is, in 6' seas, you'll still be cruising 16-20 kts smoothly while everyone else has white knuckles and is getting beat. * :o
BTW, that 27 Albie you had was the older model where the engines were right in the stern with the box in the way. *i didn't like those either. *The newer Albies are all either straight inboards or jackshafts. *The 248 and 265 are jackshaft, motor is forward, under the deck on the 265, under a convenient box/seat/rocket launcher on the 248. *The 280 (the new 27) is straight inboard, single or dual, motor(s) forward. *Entirely different animals than the old 24 and 27 Albies. *;)

That pretty well sum's it up. I watch those displacement hulls around here all the time. Not fast but doing 15 knots cruise is fast enough. For some. For others that have limited time or want to do canyon runs and be back for Happy Hour the outboard type Regulators etc are the way to go.
Me personally, I would enjoy either, but for the fishing I do, inshore, occassional run to a wreck ten miles out or a run down to the Shrewsbury Rocks 15 knots and a smooth ride would be sweet. And I don't believe they have ever made and outboard boat that will ride as sweet as an mid-engine straight shaft boat. Physics dictate what is possible and given a good hull design the same boat with an outboard or a inboard straight shaft the ride quality and sea handling the latter will be superior. IMHO

Its a semi displacement hull and i've seen some running at 25 or so but they are clearly not designed for speed..I personally like their roomy beamy design but if you are running 40 to 50 milles one way they can take a while....Guys getting killed in lobster boat races...whats this world coming to? IM AT THE FUEL DOCK EVERY TIME I THAKE THE BOAT OUT WITH TWIN 250 YAMAHAS OUTBOARDS NOT I/Os OUT BOARDS.

74, I might go see that some time?
Looks like fun to see them big boats that usually are just a slow troll when you see them, flying along!

LOL
Camping on one of our local rivers in college (and drinking very heavily), we used to do crazy stuff.
One night I put a 15 Johnson on my 6' dinghy.....we had a full moon so plenty of light.....I had to sit up front to get it to plane off, but once on plane it took off and screwed!
I got clocked at 37 MPH by another bigger boat with a speedo running next to me!
When we stopped they asked what the hell I was doing but they were laughing! LOL
