the 4.3L V6 is probably the easiest swap into a boat with a 3.7L. It will give similar performance. The 5.0L and 5.7L V8's are probably the best performance per $ as the 4.3L V6 is not a cheap engine. Either one will require some glass work to build stands for the motor mounts

under repairs forum page five you will see a thread that reads how to clean a bilge. that shows a clear picture of a V-8 chevy motor bed. i could also give you all the dimensions needed for the conversion. mine V-20 was factory original 5.7 gm i/o mercruiser.

yes cast iron block, heads.intake and exhaust manifolds am sure there is a little more weight involved here but trade off for more power is worth it . i have a stock 260hp . but as you see on this site what happens when you re-work a 5.7 with all the correct stuff. the best part is its proven. it passed the lie detector test gps speed in mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, aussie, this all started cause better economy was wanted. And, we achieved that. Cruising at 35-40 at 2800-3400rpm, saves allot of fuel, versus the 305 cranking 5500rpm to achieve 30 or so. HP is a byproduct of a effiecnt engine. HP engine, not cranked to the hilt, does better on the gas, as it doesnt work near as hard.

correct me if i'm wrong if he swaps to a V8 won't that require swaping the lower unit too? due to wrong / different gear ratio in the 3.7 vs. the V8's?

yeah Skools, he should swap at least the upper unit to different ratio(from 1.84 to 1.5), you can get away with a prop change to a certain degree
