does anyone have any experience with rolling out the deck with gelcoat? i bought the grey color that my 1989 v 20 came with. my idea is to roll out an unwaxed coat first then roll a waxed coat rite after that . i'm thinking of some non skid material between coats or just rerolling as it sets up to pull up that little bit of texture. does that sound logical or can anyone help me on this one, john

Don't roll it, spray it its easy use a cheap HLVP spray gun with a 2mm tip to shoot it. The steps you mentioned is perfect non wax first, then waxed on the final shoot. You then use the same gun and shoot glass beads generously into the wet gel it sets perfectly.
Here is picture of my deck done this way during my restore, the glass is not hard on bare feet which is perfect, also provides excellent none skid surface.
I have left over glass beads if you are interested I can send you enough for your project .

Hey nymack, she looks fantastic!:clap::clap::clap:

One thing though, it looks like the navigation lights are both pointing forward. In one picture of the port bow, I can see both red and green. :head:

When I bought my boat they were that way and I didn't notice until the NJ State Police pointed it out one night.

hey nymac66 , would you use the same size tip to shoot the beads, and would i have to thin the gel coat, last but not least if i shoot unwaxed in the 1 st coat i guess that would mean i cant walk on it thanks john and by the way your boat is awesome

Yes I did use the same Gun with the 2.0 mm tip just back the volume adjuster all the way out..
As for the first coat it will be tacky not to be walked on or exposed to dust etc..Note I shot mine in one pass thick about 30mls , since its the deck and no concern about orange peel or fish eyes it should be shot one coat...Your call here ..
As for thinning the Gel it depends on the thickness of it, if you have to use Styrene very little as possible.
Note not all the glass beads will adhere to the Gel so lay on generously the rest will be swept off after curing ...Speaking from experience here ...
I always recommend to practice on a piece of plywood first its worth it....
Don't forget to Tape it off to protect from over spray, spend time on your prep work its important, the shoot is over in 15 minutes max !!!
Thanks for the kind words Guy's it was fun restoring this Boat ..I do it all over again if I have to no regrets...
As for the lights here is what she looks like today ..I change a few things around as you can see ...

PM me your address, I will mail up to you...
Remember to wipe the Deck with Acetone just before the shoot you are looking for a good bond here, the acetone wiped or brush down is the key..Buy your Acetone from Lowes or Home Depot cheaper by far ....

What kind of non-skid came in your V-20's? I have a diamond pattern molded into the floor on my Fisherman. Did you guys put the beaded non-skid over the factory non-skid or was it not an issue with your boats?
