For the V 21 with re designed transom, what's the best hp and why ?

Weight, performance factors, transom strength, scuppers under water etc.

Thanks

In terms of HP the 150-200hp is perfects for these boats. The 2 strokes are nice because they weigh less than the 4 strokes. My opinion is that a 200hp four stroke is a little too heavy for the V21. The self bailing cockpit has scuppers just above the waterline, so the extra weight (about 100lbs) matters, especially if you are standing in the stern and have dual batteries back there too.

I have a 175 etec, which I think is similar in weight to the 200HP etec. I just happened to get a better deal on the 175.

I have a v21 with a Honda 150. I took her out today, running against wind and tide, 2 kids, my svelt 220lb frame, Bimini and full fuel. Cruise was 25, almost WOT ~ 5000 Rpms was 36 mph on the gps. I think trimmed out and wide open I can do 40, still trying to play with my set-up. Overall I love it. Just be careful with the weight, my scuppers are halfway under the waterline in my slip.

Scuppers that low with only a 150 tells me a 200 would be a problem.
That's interesting - wonder what Wellcraft was thinking there.......... if you can't keep the boat in the water because the scuppers are under water, the boat shouldn't be rated for a 200 hp.

That's just my opinion, and of course there could be other factors, 4 strokers at 600lbs plus definitely a major stretch for these hulls.

I have a E-Tec200HO (3.3l)and it works just fine--And I have the back deck loaded.

I cruise at 3400 at around the 35mph range--WOT in the 50+ range with load and a standup top surround.

I am thinking that 175 E-Tec might be just it for a V-20--I would think the 200HO would work great on a V21.

Keep in mind that Parrot has a 150 Honda 4 stroke on a jack plate I believe, a 200 2 stroke will be lighter and no jackplate helps some more as well.

Yes, I do have a jackplate to accommodate the 20" shaft.

my .02 is 175hp. Perfect mix of low end torque at top end speed. I've been in multiple V-20's; twin 70's , twin 115's and a single 200. For my money, the 175 tops them all.

Hey Ginie aye, a dumb question, is that 175 or 200 E-tec a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke ? are they much heavier than say a 86 150 Evi 2 stroke?

Ok,,,,one more dumb question,, I realize I have a self-bailing cockpit but scuppers what are those? the drain holes on the side? for the floor to drain? are they supposed to be above water when the boat is docked just floating?

Yes the drain holes in each corner of the stern and yes the thru hulls they drain out of on the sides are supposed to be above the water line though they do get dunked below when the boat rocks for some reason.

We love the old Yamaha V6 200 Precision Blend that is on our 1987 V.
The boat is so much fun with that much power!

Let's put a Merc Optimax 300 hp on a V21 and see how fast it goes..............

It is a fuel injected 2 stroke with a 3 star emmision rating---cleaner than 80% of the 4 strokes out there and a bunch lighter.

I would say that you are real close on weight on the 175/200 hp in the 2.6litre engine.

All the Etecs are 2-stroke...w/all the old 2-stroke problems removed!!...

Scuppers are in place to allow water to flow OUT of the boat, while not allowing water to flow IN...

Good Information,,,,, thank you both..... I am dropping off my motor this Monday to powerheadexchange to get my 150 rebuilt, he is giving me a 2 yr. warranty, 100% first and 50% second year, I think is the best way to go considering my budget, I will let you all know how it turns out..
