I have been looking at this motor to go on my 1980 v-20 CC that I have been reworking. My questions are: What will my mph be? Will I need any special gages or inginetion for this motor to work? What prop should I use, I normally have me and at least one other person on board?

The motor came off aboat that was only used in fresh water so there is minimal rust and corrosion. It is having the lower end rebuilt it would not shift into gear? I am getting it for $2000.00 I think it is a good price?

Also any general comments about these motors, reliabilty, performance, issues would be great

Surfer, I used to fish w/a guy had one of those motors on an aluminum 20' Sylvan...light weight boat w/out much deadrise...it would FLY!!...compared to the Black Max he had on there prior, it got much better gas mileage...it'll be an excellent power selection for a V20 also...should top out about 40 -43 mph at WOT and light load w/a 15-15 1/2" x 17 pitch prop...a Mercury Mirage Plus will be an excellent choice...expensive new, but you should be able to find one around used but in good shape...try to get a compression check on that motor before you buy it...let us know how it goes...

A 15 pitch prop in the MIRAGE line may be a better choice as that 99 150 will have the 1.86:1 lower unit in it. Expect WOT speeds around 40-43 like Reel said, but fuel burn numbers on that engine should be around 12GPH at 3800-4000 RPM's and 18-19 GPH at WOT if it is like my 95 150 EFI I had.

2.0L's were the only V-6's with the 2:1 ratio, the 2.4L+ all had the 1.86:1 in them. A 99 150 EFI is going to be a 2.5L.
