Ballast anyone?

I really would like to get my rear scuppers out of the water. Going to put in some sort of check valve but realistically would like to get them completely out of the water for leaking purposes... Any ideas for weighting down the bow?

For the transom--I just put on the scuppers on the outside of the hull with the flappers--Then when I am back trolling it does not fill up the rear of the boat-On the sides--still working on that one--LOL

I considered the same thing...but like you, what to use?...I considered sand, but it would need to be water-proofed some way...wrapped good in heavy plastic or something...I considered lining the front-most cavity in front of the bulkhead w/plastic and pouring full of sand, but that's gonna be TOUGH to get to...there might be a spray in liner (undercoating?) to coat the inside before pouring in the sand...

TEST...in the water, sit 5 gal buckets of sand (or sand-bags)up front to see how much it'll take to get the thru-hulls outta the water

It wouldn't be outta the question to relocate the two rear batteries up where the trolling motor batteries are...

I know mines an 18 but they suffer the same demise. I have 3 batteries, I moved the two for trolling and all other accessories to under the console and left just the one starting in back....much better in addition to the big ice chest in front of the console. :clap:

I have the same problem with my 18'.

I have been planning on making a splashwell so I only have to worry about the deck drains on the sides. I figured with moving my 2 batteries to the console, moving my livewell to the front of the console and making the splashwell I should be good. I just need to by some fiberglass supplies and find some time.

I also believe my floatation foam is water logged which could add some serious weight depending on how bad. I have one soft spot on the floor so I have been planning on pulling it up and replacing the foam or going without foam, not sure yet.

I Use Duckbill Scuppers

They do a great job of keeping the water out, but can also be a little slow on letting out of the cockpit at rest. Once you get up towards plan the moving water has no problem getting out.

Over all I like them.
