Do any of you guys out there no where to buy EVINRUDE engine tuner by the gallon anymore? I can't find it on there website any longer, and non of the dealers around me have it anymore. Or do you know of an equivelant product in a gallon size? I use it for cleaning carbs as it is the BEST product I have ever found for cleaning carbs and doesn't harm rubber or plastic. My gallon is getting pretty well used up from soaking so many carbs over the years and it's time to find some more.

The old GM stuff has been discontinued for the new injector cleaner, and it doesn't clean no where near as well(I have some of both here at the house). The EVINRUDE stuff was the best by far though of anything I've used.

Ditto. There are several dealers/marina's around here. Maybe one has some sitting on a shelf. I'll do some checking also.

If one of us finds it locally, will it be worth you payin' shippin'?...or are you lookin' to find an internet source for it?...if you're willin' to pick up shippin', I'll check w/my Good Buddy dealer up here...if it's still on the market, he can get it...

I don't mind payin the shipping so lonag as it's not sky high. I don't need it in a hurry or anything either, but this is the only cleaner I've found that doesn't harm plastic. Here recently I've had a run on bad fuel injectors and I use this stuff for cleaning them on the bench(I'm one of them wierd cheap guys that services injectors in my shop).

Ya might wanna check on the cost of shippin' a gallon of volatile liquid and make sure it passes the "not sky high" test...ain't tryin' to trip you up or anything, but the devil's in the detail ya know and shippin fees are gonna run a gal of that stuff up pretty good I expect...:head:

Hey ferm, have you tried an ultrasonic? I started with this one from harbor freight http://www.harborfreight.com/25-liter-ultrasonic-cleaner-95563.html Once i figured out how well it works I bought one of these http://www.***elsmall.com/ulcaclsysh.html. I still use the Yamaha cleaner when I get some green parts. But by using the ultrasonice, I've only been thru 2 qts of Yamaha in hte past year. I just add a little purple power to teh water. My wife likes it because the house doesn't smell like carb cleaner. as far as injcetors go, there are several local shops that clean them in house using an ultarsonic. But htey don't have the tools to measure flow. They check pattern, but thats about it. Thats why i use injectorrx. they clean them, put new screens inthem, and flow test each one, They give you a nice chart showing the flow before and after that i give a copy of to my customers. That way they can see it was an issue. My thinking is on a marine efi system , it won't know if its a lttle lean unitll you burn a piston.

Well I called up an EVINRUDE dealer that I know does alot of service work and low and behold he has some of it still in stock. He said it's no longer listed in teh catalog, but it has superceded to a new number and is still available to dealers. The price has even gone down on it to under $60 for agallon(last gallon cost me almost $80 6 years ago).

That's great news Ferm.. glad to hear it. By any chance did he happen to mention what the new number is? Is it still called the same thing? I'd like to pick some up for myself and it would be good if I knew what to call it when I go to the marina. :head:

Hey Spare, what is that second link please? Evidently the auto-censor thing blocked out some of the word. All I see is ***elsmall.com. Thanks!!

those things work grat, I clean all kinds of stuff in mine. Teh first thing i cleaned was my wifes wedding ring, looks brand new. I've cleaned my guns, fishig reel parts, tools, all kinds of crap. Best thing is the solution isn't harsh, just make sure you oil any bare metal parts afterwards to prevent rusting(per Willys advise)

We have a small unit that my wife uses to clean her je welry, but it's no where's big enough to clean a carb or pistol or whatever. Truthfully I never thought about using one for things like that, but I have high hopes now. Just need to get a good enough unit. I don't need a professional unit for the amount of things I have to work on... Just personal reels, guns, carbs, tools etc... so a several hundred dollar unit is not necessary. Truth is, I like that Harbor freight unit size. (and price)... So I think I'll get one of them and use that as a benchmark to see if it's enough or do I want bigger/better. Thanks again for the idea... That's what I love about this site, you never know where the thread will lead you. Ferm wanted some cleaner and I'll wind up with a untrasonic unit.. go figure....

i started with the ultrasonic from harbor freight, it does pretty good, I still have it and use it time to time, it doesn't even compare to my bigger cleaner, but it does the job for smaller items

I got one on eBay for $33 including shipping last night. Should have it in a week or so. I know the big ones are better, but for the occasional reel and the like this should be ok, plus my wife will love it for her je welry and stuff. Should be interesting...

For those that may want to try some, it is part # 777189 now and cost me $54.99 + tax from an EVINRUDE dealer this morning. I know this stuff puts seafoam to shame for decarboning, but it does require extra soak time and I don't reccomend directly mixing it with your fuel.

Thanks for the numbers Ferm. Going to get some and then try it in the ultrasonic. I know that my unit isn't as good as Spares, but I'm hoping that the vibes and heat will help with the cleaning along with what the chemicals will be doing. I have an old BSA 441 Victor carb that I'm going to try it out on as a test. Someone on iBoats made a post that Liquid Wrench makes a carb cleaner that's safe for plastic. Gonna do a websearch and see if I can find it. I'll keep everyone informed on the progress of finding it. :head:
