Hi guys,

I know I just registered here, and the main reason is to tell you guys my father is selling his baby. *He retired and just bought a 26' Fortier *;D

I hope it's OK that I list this here, I know some people get bent out of shape about guys registering to sell stuff on some of the other sites *::), but I want to be able to offer it here first!

Many of you may have seen me on other sites, I know I have messaged with several members from here on other sites *:)

Anyway, my father bought this boat in 1982, and it had a 200 Black Max on it. *The motor blew the powerhead off the north tip of Jamestown in '84, and my father put on a brand new '83 leftover, also a 200 Black Max.

This boat has had everything from 1300# of scup/seabass caught off Martha's Vineyard to a 501# GBFT caught off Noman's, to 400+# of Tautog....etc etc.....

You guys know what these are capable of! *This one's been 60 miles offshore.

Anyway, 2 years ago, due to an injury, my father winterized it and hasn't used it since. *Now he is able to boat again and has bought a boat he has always wanted to upgrade to.

I towed it to my house this past weekend to get her cleaned up and running while he is vacationing in CA for a couple weeks. *I charged the batteries, put the muffs on, and fired her over. *Smoked out the neighborhood blowing out the fogging oil *;D but she fired right over and runs beautiful as always!!! *(He has always used extra oil all the time and always Quicksilver, never any cheap chit).

I have yet to clean her up and take a few pics, and go thru what he has for electronics and any equipment and also to come up with a price.

She will need transom work soon. *Though he was still using her 2 years ago, the transom needs attention. *He did already do the gas tank maybe 10 years ago or so. *Other than the transom, the hull is in great shape, and the floor seems solid! *This was strictly a trailered boat, never moored or slipped.

The EZ-Loader Roller Trailer has been all rebuilt except for the main rails. *The rear sections of the rails were getting bad and we welded very heavy angle and plates and basically rebuilt the tail section. *Crossbars, axle, etc were all replaced. *Trailer has Powerwinch.

Center Console has a bimini enclosure, plastic is in good shape, has "hard" curved plastic front window with the soft side windows.

I'll post up pics, price, list of equip., etc ASAP, but for now, here's a recap:

- *1977 Wellcraft V-20 Center Console
- *1983 Mercury Black Max 200 (installed new in '84)
- *Bimini enclosure on CC
- *EZ Loader Roller Trailer w/Powerwinch

Again, I hope this ad is OK.......

BTW I love the History and Gallery sections on this site......I love looking at the old brochures, just like the old brochures on the Formula site! * 8) *You guys have some VERY PRETTY V-20's here! *I've always loved this boat!

When I pulled in the driveway with it, my wife said "You know, I forgot how good looking that boat is!" *She was more referring to the style than how clean it ISN'T right now lol...been under the cover the last 2 years LOL......but she's right, these are such pretty hulls! :)

BTW, just saw this brand new trailer on THT for $2000 here in RI! *Was used once to tow a 21 Contender home, aluminum bunk Venture!

http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=117693&posts=3 *

I'm sure this V-20 would fit nicely, there is a ramp 10 minutes away that I use that we could swap it out at if anyone wanted. *Could get the bunks adjusted, etc right at the ramp by trial and error if necessary *8)

The trailer it's on now, we have to repair once more on the right rear rail, as one of my dad's chicken-sh*t welds let go when I towed it to my house. *This time my brother-in-law, who was a welder for 15 years, will be doing it right LOL.

It will be repaired before the boat goes anywhere!

OK, just got off the phone with my father......

We discussed it, and the price is $2,000 AS-IS.......

What's this mean........

It means I am going to get her cleaned up, we will repair the trailer, and you come get her. :)

Known "NEEDS".....

- Transom work
- Trim pump works "up", but not down, the solenoid just clicks that direction, simple fix
- Shift cable is stiff but works....needs attention to free it up some (Throttle cable is very free, and STEERING you can turn with one finger!!!)
- Needs new compass, this one is half empty lol.

Those are what I know. Other than that, I'm not going to even guarantee lights working or not, etc......lol.....boat's been sitting under a cover 2 years, expect to check that stuff out!

Electronics: Comes with Loran C, a VHF, and a newer Fishfinder. Brands/models I will have to wait 'till my father gets back, I don't know where those are stored.

Pics to come this weekend!

Great boat with some TLC and the above work!

OK OK OK.......

I went out in the rain just now and snapped these pics......not the best but it's a start LOL......

Remember, I just uncovered this and haven't even taken a hose to it other than to the muffs to get her running. :P

(Sorry about the 'Burb, I have a trailer hooked to it with 2 tons of crushed stone in it, it's parked RIGHT there for a reason (ruts, spreading stone somewhere, didn't feel like miving it just for these, it'll be gone by tomorrow so won't be in the next set of pics.)

Close, was in NK, where I grew up. But we trailered it everywhere we went.

Right now it's sitting at my house just over the line in Exeter.

I suppose you must be referring to "KAJUN"'s post:

"does anyone know where to buy one of these center console bimini things?"

I must have missed the post, being on the very bottom of page 1 and I apologize to KAJUN for not answering him, although anyone else could have chimed in at any time :P ;D

KAJUN, this Dodger was done by Fit N' Stitch in our town. Any canvas shop that knows what they are doing can do one for you, if you tell them what you want.

However, we did modify it a little....the side frame rails were too flimsy to grab onto (by the guys riding shotgun) so we replaced them with stainless pipe that we did ourselves with a pipe cutter and some fittings. Now they can actually be used as grab bars without worry ;)

bump for the weekend......

$2,000 No-BS price.....

A lot of value here!

The motor alone can be resold on eBay for $1500 (already seen several sold ones this vintage). Strap it to a pallet and freight it!

That would leave you into this for $500!

Heck, then sell the Loran-C with Antenna etc, there's guys out there LOOKING specifically for the XJ-1, for a $100 or $200 say......(seen guys pay even more than that)

Then the SPARE PROP (damn good shape BTW)......gotta bring a $100 or more.

Boat's almost free now ;D

Can you run her safely with transom as-is?

That's a loaded question (I'm sure you didn't mean it that way lol ;)) that I am reluctant to give an answer to.

I will say this......

That steel plate has been there for quite some time now, and the boat was used the same as always after installing the plate for a NUMBER of the past years.

The boat has not been used the last couple of years for reasons OTHER than the transom. (Health, personal stuff, etc). It sat covered.

The transom, while showing some flexibility if you violently shake the motor by the skeg LOL, does not show any signs of stress cracking in the glass, etc, so it can't be THAT bad. I've seen worse.

That's about all I can say about the transom. I am selling it as "needing transom work" regardless, and it is priced accordingly. ;)

Had a question or 2 about the transom.

i.e. Has it been cut down? etc

No, it has not been "cut down". You can see this in the brochure pic below, the opening matches what is shown in the pic. (Short Shaft setup.)

There IS a notch cut on the port side opening.....we did not do that.

It was there when we bought the boat in 1982, so it had to have been for the original Merc for some reason. But I don't see any importance there.

We left the trim off when we did work to it a while back and sealed the top with 5200.

By the time I'm done, it will be a 23' and will go just about anywhere. For $2000 and a little work, someone will have a nice boat.

My Reply to "Davedowneast"

Thanks for this post Dave, kind of confirms my feeling that the notch was either "Factory" or was necessary for the original power, especially with your hull being only a year later. This boat had the original 1977 200 Merc Black Max on it when we bought it in '82. That blew the powerhead in '84.

Couple more weeks, if she doesn't sell, the motor will be winterized and she'll be covered back up for the winter.

Well, I see 2 notches here. 1 factory and 1 "sawsall".

The factory notch is where it dips down in the middle. This of course, is to accomodate the 20" outboard.

The "sawsall" notch is on the left side of the factory notch in the picture. Just a guess, but looks to me someone notched out a couple of inches to allow the steering arm to fully extend when turning left. ???

First of all, I never said it was definitely "Factory".......if you look I said it could have been "necessary for the original power" (i.e. done at original power install).

If you look at "Davedowneast"'s post, his boat has the same exact notch and it is a '78.

I don't think someone "got too happy with a sawzall". *It was cut for a reason. *What that reason is, who knows.....who cares? * ???

It's a moot point anyway! *I never saw so much fuss about a "notch" in a transom of an almost 30 year old boat that needs a new transom anyway..... ::)

Blue Runner, you probably are right, and I already thought this. *However, on the current motor it is not necessary. *Probably was for the steering on the '77 200 that was on it originally. * ;)

The large "drop" IS factory most definitely! *Was setup for a short shaft from the factory, just as the brochure shows.
