Hey guys,

My unit needs to have all the seals redone. Because it's a LH rotating unit, it's gonna cost me $500 to get it done. Rather than shell out that kind of cash, I think I'm gonna look for a RH rotating unit to replace it with.

If any of you have any leads on where I might get a good deal on one, please let me know. There are a few on Ebay right now that I'm watching and one or two locally that I'm considering.

What would be a reasonable price to pay for a good used one or a remanufactured one?

Also, what would be a reasonable price to sell my LH unit for in its current state?

Thanks,

Steve

Yeah, I don't know why the LH unit costs more to reseal... I've been picking Skools' brain over the last couple of days. He has been a great help (as always) in letting me know which units will fit on my motor.

I know you need a 93+(not sure if 91-92 will work or not as I can't remember exactly when they changed crankshafts). The counter rotating lowers are simliar, but a bit more work to get the gear carrier out of due to the different design for holding it in. A right hand rotation unit has all the thrust going forward from the propshaft and the gears whereas a lefty has the prop thrust going forward and the gear thrust going aft. This requires a different gear holding assembly that holds in tighter so that it doesn't tear the gears up. I've replaced just the seals in them in the past though without much disassembly of them. If your careful with a cnter prunch and small rounded screwdrivers you can pry the prop shaft seals out without removing the carrier assembly. I'm pretty sure the upper driveshaft assembly has to come out though, but there not normally seized in that badly.

Are the 150 - 200 HP's the same lowers? Or is it just 150-175?

I just scored a nice deal ($300) on a standard rotation unit off of a 94 Ocean Pro 200. Perfect match! Hopefully a solid unit. I pick it up tonight.

Thanks again to Skools for great counsel in helping me choose the right unit.

Just remember to get a new prop or else it will be interesting on your maiden voyage.

LOL... Yeah, that would be one wild ride. :you:

I'm now looking for a used SS 15 x 17 prop if anybody knows of any good deals.

Don't rule out a 14 1/2" X17 either as I know my 15 1/2" X 17 was all mine could pull and I wasd putting out alot closer to 250 at the prop on mine.

Ferm, thanks for the reminder. I recall reading your comment about this in another thread. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 14 1/2 x 17...

Much appreciated.

Hey Todd,

Yep, got it. Looks good. I'm hoping to get motivated today and swap out the lower units and install the new to me prop on it.

The guy never got back to me about buying my LH lower unit, so I'll probably put it up on the Hull Truth, then Ebay.
