so i found THE truck. 2002 dakota 4 door with the V6 and low mileage. hate the color, patriot blue, but everything i'v been looking for.
so i leave the guy a deposit and head home to call my credit union for a used car loan. well, i cant get a used car loan for a car older than 2004 so they tell me i can take a personel loan at 14.5%. so the truck would end up costing me an extra $4,000. bucks because it's too old.
i guess old mr murphy doesnt want me to have a truck. it's getting a little cold riding my bike to the train station every day.
this sucks.
BLAH!

I have been using use penfed.org for years. Not sure if they have that limit but worth a shot. They currently have 2.9 on used cars online.

Chuck what about a new one with zero percent financing .... just mabe order something strip down bare bones , thats what I did when I bought my frist brand new truck .....it was a ford f150 drove it for 6 yrs then traded it for a 250 utility body....or mabe a lease that keeps the payment low and with ur short comute they wont kill you with mileage I'm no financial wizard but just a thought.

spare, my problem was i couldnt afford to spend too much right now. i'm actually looking at a truck in the $7,000. to $10,000. range. also, maybe something a bit closer.
lumbo, i cant take on a 6 year loan right now. we're working without a contract and this piece of sh!t, jay walder wants to automate the railroad. he doesnt care who gets hurt, as long as he makes his $350,000. a year and his $5,000. a month housing allowance.
so it looks like he is starting by cutting our overtime. now we have to make ends meet on a flat week's salary. let me tell you boys, it aint easy living on long island on a flat week. raising two boys who never stop eating and a mortgage that seems to go up just a little bit every year or so.
thought we would have a little breathing room when we finished paying off the boss' minivan but it seems like that extra money just disappeared.
dont know if i mentioned but i have my brother-in-law living upstairs and he hasnt payed rent since last november.
it's all just starting to catch up to us now.

the raleigh area is a little closer,, its a good market to look for cars. Not enough snow for salting the roads. You could take a train one way to pick one up that you like

this is you right here

CTT, pick-up's are nice, but do you really "need" a pick-up? My point being that for some reason pick-up's seem to be bringing really high prices right now... way out of line for what they are. You might be doing a lot better looking at used SUV's... I know they aren't as utilitarian as a pick-up, but they are 4WD, and most have v8's in them that will pull your boat easy. And they are usually a lot less than a pick-up of the same age/milage/brand. Just somethng to think about.

Also, I gotta go with Reel on this one... there's a reason for everything.. sometimes we know what it is, sometimes we don't. And Lumber had a really good idea... buy or lease a brand new one. With your short haul to work the milage won't eat you alive, and with 0% interest you just might be paying less then if you bought the used one @ 14.9% interest.

(and quietly take your brother in law aside and tell him that he needs to be paying for the food he's eating.. maybe he can't afford to pay some rent, but at least make his stay at your home neutral financially.)

If that don't work, try it not so quietly and let is know if we need to take a road trip.:bat:

Don't listen to destroyer about that crap of "do you really need a pick-up?" Remember, he drives a fancy dancey Range Rover...
:hi:

I'm also one that buy's new and keeps it for years, just don't forget to figure in the sales taxes and insurance. There must be good deals on leftovers in "Patriots Blue"...

I to am looking for a truck, used not new. I have to get one of those before I can get a V20. I have an excellent mechanic that I have learned to trust and I asked him his take on any particular make or model considering a used truck will have to be fixed sometimes. He said he plans to build a monument to Chrysler products because they paid for his business his two houses his boat and his airplane and he says he is most grateful to them. He told me if I stuck with an F150 or a GM Sierra I would be fime. Thats his opinion not mine. Sometimes things work out even when yoiu think they didn't.

thanks straycat. as the paperwork is clear and i'll be picking up my dakota this weekend, that was something i really enjoyed reading. do you have any more good news for me? is there an asteroid on a direct course to my house?
so anyway when i pick her up this weekend, i'll snap a couple pictures while she's still nice and clean, as i dont really believe in a clean truck. this old girl will be worked hard and wont know pampering. i'll be sure not to get too close to any of those fancy dancy land rovers.

Charlie, when my son was hurt (bad) in a motorcycle accident last Dec out in Az. I rented a Dakota while I was out there. Truthfully, it was one of the best mid-sized pickups I've ever driven. I think you'll do fine with your new baby. The only thing I'd caution you on is the rear is very light, just like the Ford Ranger that I drive everyday at work. They get sideways in a turn real easy if you're not careful. You'll want to put it in 4WD when the weather turns wet. Other than that, it's a sweet ride. Grats on her new home!!

Oh, and don't worry too much about that asteroid... they tell me it's only a 50-50 chance of hitting your house

thanks big D. those odds are very comforting. we wont be using her much for road trip-like driving. just all the local hauling and working sh!t.
as you mention your son and his accident, (i hope all is well) i was just looking at a 1978 lowrider. guy's practically giving it away. thats the exact bike i had all those years ago. the day i watched my buddy die right there in front of me i went home, sold my bike and havent ridden since. but dam i'm tempted.

Aint nothing wrong with a DAKOTA. Here's my DAKOTA that I had up until I DURAMAX'd the BURB. And yes it was a fun truck, with the 4.7L V8 it would move out pretty good and just sounded MEAN!

My Previous bike was a 1980 low rider. However, it was not patriots blue like my current 2001 road king, it was black.

If it is also patriots blue, you HAVE to buy it!!!!!

And good luck with your dakota, hope you have as good of luck that I had with the ram I previously had.

I would bet that 'glide is out of your price range that limberslinger posted, but I like the color...

He was pretty badly banged up... he had new tires on it and the bike went squirrly on him at 80 on the interstate out in the desert on the way to California... flipped him.. broke his back, legs, bunch of other stuff. Man, I never want to get another phone call like that from a state trooper telling me that I should not get my hopes up...

He's doing fine now, thanks for your concern.. :) Got his torso clam shell cast off about 2 months ago that was keeping his spine alligned properly while the bones knit. They put a Titanium cage around 3 vertabre in his spine. He'll have fun going thru metal detectors from now on..lol. All in all, since he should be dead, he's doing great. Doc's think he can go back to work in another 6 months or so. Meanwhile he goes to phys ed 3 times a week to strengthen everything. I've dumped my bike also CTT... and yes, I've been tempted to ride again. Problem is I know that if I do it's not if, but when will I have my next accident. And will I live through it? Don't give in to the temptation my bro.. we want to talk to you, not about you.
