I've been working on this project for what seems like an eternity. Had to clear a lot of trees behind my house, burn brush piles, etc.

The plan is for a 25' x 36' attached garage and a 32' x 44' detached building with a single 16' x 10' garage door and 12' ceiling height. I'm going to shed off the right side aka build a "lean-to" the whole 44' length out to about 16' or so for some cheap additional dry space. At this point all grading is done, the foundation is in for the garage and the footing dug and poured for the building. Next step is laying the block for the building and then framing will commence.

Here are some pics.....and a sneak peak at the type of activities that will take place under the lean-to.

I have never had a place to store anything "manly" including my V. Always had to keep lawnmowers, boats, etc. under tarps. In the pics you'll see an little old vintage 1970's Leonard building that served as my temporary man cave for the last few years. I'll be glad to see it go! Full of junk right now.

The heavy equipment unearthed a nice kirk corner-knotch arrowhead which I graciously picked up to add to my collection.

Finally a place to turn the boat around.

The pics are a little deceptive....I should probably explain. The wide open shot showing the rock smoker is at my buddy's dad's house. We recently finished it up. It is my old concrete block smoker all dolled up with the fake stone and such. The other smoker full of meat is my dad's old smoker that he made years ago. That pic is from new years. He made one like it for me, which I have posted pics of before. The smokers are designed to use wood coals shoveled from what we call a burn-down barrel. We like to use oak and hickory, because of its abundance in our area, and smoke mostly pork ribs, loins, chicken, and deer meat. In the case of the stone smoker they made a brick burndown and stuck the fake rock on it too. A few pieces fell off from the initial heat. I think my buddy stuck em back on the other day. That is my dutch oven though. It was full of baked beans, onions, bell and jalapeno peppers from my garden & of course bacon.

Nice. I'm gonna need to learn to make baked beans. Never liked them till I went to KC and had some at Jacks Stacks.

In any case sounds like a garage warming party in the works.

Congrats, garages are great. I remember when I bought my last house, I also added a nice garage. It was exciting.

Now, it's pretty much full...

Man I'd give my left nut for a piece of property with some size to it.....The only thing I truly miss from my living (albeit brief) in SC was the 6 acre lot that we had.... Moved back up north and have a house half the size and a 50' x 150' lot....and paid twice the price to boot!..

Good luck with the project ...keeps the pics coming.

Thanks guys. This has been a long time coming. Still a ton of work ahead but I think it is going to be totally worth it. Grand opening? I have no idea. A contractor who is a good friend of my dad (and me) is helping me out to get the project moving. He really doesn't have time to do it b/c he is covered up in work so I can only push so hard. I think he is getting some push by the mason and framer right now, so that is a good thing. I'm just going to have them get it under roof w/ siding. From there I will have it wired and plumbed then I will will do the insulation and finish out the inside myself. Going to have a small bathroom and stand up shower. And you are right, I will probably never leave! I've already purchased a wood stove for those cold winter days. Dad let me store it in his building along with my boat for the time being.

Your house looks like my man cave!! What size you going with again??

Blue_Runner
11-09-2010, 04:22 PM
Yep, it does resemble your man cave.
The building is going to be 32" x 44". I'm going put a shed roof off one side and eventually both sides and the back most likely. You can never have enough dry space.

I'm also building a 25' x 36' attached garage. Both are getting single 16' garage doors.
