What's up captains. Just signed up here about a month ago, and have been amazed of the awesome work you guys are doing to bring back these vessels to be alive, and Well....craft.
Just picked up a 77 v-20 CC a couple months ago, and as everyone knows, it only takes one jackwagon to ruin a perfectly good transome. So with time(not money) on my side, I'm in the process of bringing her back from the so called depths. (As far as know, she was never been at the bottom of a body of water. We need boatfax or something.) Will be more vigilant about progress pics in the future.(Before I joined here, didn't think anyone gave a crap)
Just a few pics from the day of purchase.

Welcome from another newby-WOW- our boats could have been twins! Mine had been neglected for years from the PO(Ive had her about month and a half), I'm showing her love and getting her back in shape. I have a '78 center, got all my teak redone. I took all the brittle plastic storage bins out and fiberglassed them from the outside so the inside still looks factory, same with the side rod holder inserts. Ive removed my old faded decals and boot stripes, installed new boot and decals on order. Going thru wiring and engine now....

Keep the updates and pics coming!!

Thanks for the welcome Link. Did you have to replace the teak, or was there enough left to restore. Been thinking about replacing all the teak except for the rod holders in the side.(they survived the weathering) CC is in the garage now with major restructuring happening. There must be hundreds of screw holes in this boat. Not when I'm through with it though. Can't have her looking like crap the first day at the launch ramp.

Man that is going to be a really a sweet cc. I'm jealous of you cc guys......except during winter!

Keep us posted!

The wood was all there, and in generally decent shape--meaning not cracked or broken, but way ugly. It had been varnished prob 6 or 7 years ago. I like natural teak so I sanded it all down, then bleached it, looks clean now.

I have a bunch of screw holes that have been filled by PO, I just filled a bunch on my console. I will prob piant(Interlux Perfection) the top deck and console this winter. The hull and insides are in good shape, just need buffing.

My deck and stringers are rock solid, but looking for a transome job in couple years.

Here is a pic of the inside from couple weekends ago, all teak is now done

No I cant take credit, PO did them. They are well done, I'm going to put a shelf of some sort in there above my batteries

22632263Snapped a few pics after work. I need to get my new compressor home so this stuff will go faster. All the work is for the last pictures result. I"ll get some more soon. Took more than I can upload. Check out the rotted wood. Glad to have that crap out.

Wow you've got a project! I'm going to be doing that to my tansom before to long. Looks like floor below console was bad? How are you going to tackle the transom? inside, outside, gut it and pour a new core?

KEEPINGITREEL
09-21-2010, 07:53 PM
Good times Link!! Skins are gutted already at the transom. Trying to make some time to pour the first mix. Stupid work place keeps me from working on the boat.
I drilled the wood from beween the skins with a 1" wood bit. Worked alright, but I'm glad I don't do that stuff day to day. To those who do, DAMN DUDE! Helps if you don't do it in the middle of a record breaking heat. Maybe my foam wont be saturated!

Man thats hard work! Ive heard of people using anything from drills to chisels to chainsaws---what ever it takes I guess, Keep the progress pics coming, I need to learn all I can about these boats. I know Makos, but Im a Wellcraft newby!

Grew up with Penn Yans. Can't find them here in richmond, so I went with something just better. Freaking charter buisiness in the past makes me want to fish just that much more. Hence the v20! Can't wait to make it happen!! Pics coming. Anyone recommend a little regular bondo to fill in the fiberglass lines and air bubbles?

draglink
09-22-2010, 06:04 PM
Hey no kidding your in Richmond, thats about an hour west of me. Did you charter out of OBX?

I know people dont recommend bondo for boats, but I have used the premuim gold here and there with good results, good primer and paint helps Im sure

KEEPINGITREEL

Sweet deal Link! When I get her fixed, we should meet up and take the twins down to the launch ramp. It'll look like a freaking wellcraft commercial! The charter biz was on Lake Ontario(grew up in Binghamton NY). Never was able to get the fish bug out of my blood. Looking to get my sixpack license so that one day a can charter out of The Banks. That would be super sweet!! Just a few more holes to fill on the console, then it's on to the gas tank to see if it needs replacing. So glad I didn't dump her in the water first shot!!

09-23-2010, 08:41 AM
I have known people to use Bondo on above water line to do screw holes and stuff.

I would NOT use below the water line as Bondo will absorb water if not primed and painted right! They just don't match even all painted.

09-23-2010, 10:13 AM
Yep X2 on what Macojoe said- aove H2O.

2 twin V20s would class up any river! Yeah besides a good wax, my boat is done. Motor is at mechanic now getting freshened up. I'm going to drain all my fuel and replace all the lines before I launch also.

Good one Drag!!

Rockfish? OH...UH, YOU MUST MEAN STRIPERS! :you::beer:
Almost time for ya'll to send those linesiders back down south for the winter. In NC we hunt the ocean stripers mainly in winter and some days it doesn't get much above freezing. The enclosure really pays for itself on those days.

09-23-2010, 12:25 PM
Hey Blue-yeah same here. There are some resident fish around early season, some come down from the upper bay. The big-uns dont get here really till Dec. We run to the ocean(about 45 mins) and mainly fish off Rudee inlet off Va Beach. Sometimes we'll go further south to 'The Golfball' or to around the NC line. I guess its 50/50 around here- Stripers vs Rockfish HAHAHA!:sun:

Oh dang, I was thinking you were a Mass guy there for a min b/c the "Gloucester Pt." location. I see you are in VA now.

We have been going to Rudee the past 3 winters. Before that we would go to Oregon Inlet, Nags Head NC but The fish haven't been traveling as far south in recent winters. Rudee inlet is a lot easier to navigate and the drive there vs. Nags Head is about the same for us. I really like VA beach. You'll have to PM me when you plan to be out fishing and I will do the same. We can divide and conquer!

You need quintuplets to look like a real Wellcraft commercial!. This was from a get together here in NJ this summer...we think 5 is the current record to be photographed together...if we had our act together we could have had 7 I think but 2 boats were there earlier than the rest. Give you VA guys something to shoot for.

Hey Blue that is a plan, sounds great! Hope we have a good bite like previous years.
Gloucester, Pt, Va -quiet little town on the York River across from Yorktown on the lower Chesapeake

Rwilson - thats impressive! I'd have that turned into a poster! That gives us something to shoot for REEL! We go to a sand island on some weekends and most summer holidays in the bay off Mathews, Va. Usually 2 or 3 V20 cuddys and a couple centers, if we add mine and REEL we could have a fleet!

Ok REEL - keep the progress pics coming!

Actually, if you add two other boats that were supposed to show but couldn't for various reasons.. (Willy and myself) we had the potential for 9 boats. So you southern guys are gonna have to really get it together to take the record. (send pics)

I like this little "challenge" thing we have coming from our northern brothers. We are gonna have to take the title!! :sly: We don't want to just beat you by 2 or 3 either....nope, we are planning to SHATTER your record. How does 20 sound? Gonna have to get a panoramic shot just to get em all in there.

One can only hope!

Ya, but since we Yankees were talking about possibly doing a caravan down there to meet you guys (and maybe eat some ribs)....you can't count Northern boats, even if they are in the final picture....:hi:

I'm with all of you guys! We could go for years, North/South, why not the East Coast Club? Its all good fun no matter what. It would take a huge freaking lens to capture the entire coastal crew! Ahh, air camera.
Live in Richmond VA. Grew up in upstate NY. Name the time and place(next year, my craft is a wreck)and I am there!

Photoshop (or equivilant) programs are not allowed to be used. LOL. (Truthfully I already thought about doing a pic using various Northern peoples avatars......... just for fun, but.......)

I'm guessing that the reason there isn't any East-West photos is the huge distance involved. North-South is much closer. Also, unfortunately, there are not a lot of V's on the West coast.

The Northern place is Tices Shoal, Barnaget Bay, New Jersey. The time is next summer (or whenever the mood hits us) We'll be looking for you.

I'm guessing that the Southern place is gonna be really close to Cowpens, SC, since that's where some of the BEST ribs (or so I've heard) are served. (How about it Reelapeelin, think your parking lot could take a bunch of V's all pulling up at once?) :sun:

Hell yeah guy!! Not sure about the parking lot occupancy, but there would def be some staring going on when we pull up. I was looking forward to some spedies hot off the boat grill. I'll look up Tices and see what I need to do to make it happen. Until then, it's grind, fill, sand, and paint. more pics soon.

I think a mid-atlantic meet here on the Eastern Shore would suit both yanks and southerners....a halfway point if you will......of course there is the small matter of crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel for you more southern guys....:)
