Alex, it depends on what you want to do and how fast you want to go. Speaking from experience, a 60 hp anything is not enough to get a V20 on plane, so if you want to go fast get a bigger hp engine. That said, any engine (including a 2 1/2 hp British Seagull) will move the boat at trolling speed or a little faster. But for safely moving on the great lakes I'd want an engine that could make my boat really move towards shore in a hurry if needed. Lake Superior has a reputation for swallowing boats and people. Do you want to be one of them?

If you are trying to upload it directly from your computer to the site it wont work that way. You have to upload the picture first to a site like photobucket that hosts picures for free (just need to start an account) and then post the link from photobucket to the site . There are some more detailed instructions around if you need them.

Welcome to the site BTW and as far as your motor is concerned if all you want to do "put put" around as you said I say go for it....(do be careful and dont go out 10 miles of course!)

I agree you would want to stay very close to shore and only go out on nice days with that small a motor. You would never get on a plane, and if you wanted to do anything above idle speed you would probably get significant bow rise.

Thanks for the help.I am going to retry the pics.I dont plan on doing anything near lake superior.-I am just going to stay safe in anchor bay in lake st. clair.I have always been the type to just go to a swimming spot with 100 other boats near by-swim with the wife and kids then come straight back to shore.-I found out how very little I know about boating after I went to algonac fireworks show and watched it from my 16 foot sea king boat, well the north channel sure is scary at midnight and the fact that I thought I could just watch the shore and find my way back home.Man what a night-thank god my girlfriend at the time new how to get us back.-She had ex's with real boats and real navigation skills!!

I joined photobucket-I try and try to download the URL to put the pics on the post and all I get is a invalid file notice.Anyway I do have a couple pics of the boat I can email them unless someone can help me once again. My email address is [email protected] if you want to see 2 pictures of the boat and trailer.

Hi Alex,

No offense, but your post about going out at night scares me. Please look into taking a boating safety course. Many states offer free online courses and tests which is a good start.

thanks,

rkc

Not that we wont let anybody on the site but are you sure thats a V-20? Hard to tell from the pics because they are so small but that might be a sunhatch?

Yes I dont really know the difference. Its 19 feet 6 inches I think. For $250 though I love it!-There is a real v20 at the local u-pull it yard with all the bells and whistles-I/ob full step down cabin etc etc.-Who knows maybe thats all the boat is worth but you have to admit the fully galvanized ez roller trailer with electric brakes is nice!-Up here in the detroit metro area boats without engines are just about free.I dont know about other area's of the USA.

My Cruisers, Inc cost me $300. Came with a Shoreland'r trailer and a 200 HP Merc that neded a temp sensor. Best deal I ever made... So yes, if you look long enough and do your homework you can get some great deals. Keep at it.. you've got the right attitude, just keep plugging along till you get what you want..

Not a V20, but still appears to be a terrific find with the galvanized trailer for $250. You did good. Please stick with us V20 idiots though. We do not discriminate. If we did, we would have booted some of our most beloved members off the site after they sold their V's and bought different boats.

Here they are a bit larger, but not a V20
